I have both H1B and Canadian PR. I want to commute back and forth from work daily (Windsor/Detroit).
Did you already land in Canada?
If yes , then you will now need to pay duty on new car.
If not, then look for companies that honor warranty for US cars in Canada. For ex- Honda Canada does not honor Honda US warranty.

I already landed in Canada. Stayed there for 6 months. Now I am in Detroit.

I want to relocate to Windsor and cross the border daily. What is the best course of action. I haven't bought a car yet.

if you buy car now in USA and then keep it with you for 6 months , then you can move it to Canada duty-free else you will need to pay duty on it.

State taxes are usually less. Cars used to be cheaper in the US...now with the current exchange rate, I don't know anymore. Figure out what car you want, check the prices, and go from there. If you can register in the US, it will probably be cheaper.

Insurance rates are also cheaper in the US usually.
