regarding transit visa

Can anybody let me know regarding transit visa. I am travelling from India to Canada. While, my transit is in london for 40 hours. And, I want a transit visa to go outside of the london heathrow. Can somebody let me know how to apply for the visa and what are the documents required?


Also, if the transit in london is 10 hours. Then, I need visa or not to go canada............

what if changing planes at heathrow after collecting baggage from previous plane....then i need transit visa?

transit visa is not such a big thing with UK border agency. As long as you have a connecting flight and ticket to show along with ur Canadian visa, they will issue you transit visa for 48 hours, so don't worry about it. you can get out of airport and there are plenty of cheap hotels... now i would suggest u to get out of the airport only when the halt is of more than 12 to 15 hours. otherwise, you can get transit visa and stay in the airport as they have accommodation facility within airport (of course charged as it's a hotel).

IF THE CONNECTION TIME IS LESS THAN 24 HRS, NO NEED FOR TRANSIT VISA, IF ITS 7-10 HRS, THEY WILL NOT ISSUE TRANSIT VISA
GENERALLY TRANSIT VISA IS ISSUED ONLY IF LAYOVER IS MORE THAN 24 HR IN LONDON

@ Danny, I guess you need to refresh this info. Even if your halt is of just 6 hours, you still become eligible for transit visa.

if u have to collect ur baggage then u need a visa.....because u will have to go through immigration to go to baggage claim...

I have seen the transit visa posts many times here and never got a concrete answer.
Best is to check with your airline and go with that version
