Open Work Permit - a necessity?

Hi, I'm a 29 year old in Vancouver, BC. I moved in with my girlfriend here two months ago. I have a Bachelor's degree in political science and over four years of administrative/clerical experience.

As far as I can tell, I am not a "skilled worker", and none of my previous occupations seem to align with what would qualify for an open work permit.

Am I mistaken? Is there another way to qualify for a work permit? Do I have a decent chance of getting a job and receiving sponsorship from them? I've been looking for work since I've been here, I've received a few interviews, but things haven't been shaking out yet.

Nothing in the information you've provided would indicate that you qualify for an open work permit.

If you want to get a work permit, you would first need to find an employer willing to give you a full time job. That employer would then have to obtain an approved LMIA (permission to hire you). You would then qualify to apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific employer.

Finding an employer willing to go through the LMIA process tends to be extremely difficult. It's long and expensive.
