Hi everyone,

My question is, I am leaving to the USA from September 3rd until December 20th, then coming back for two weeks and then going back to the USA until June 1st 2018.

I have asked the people in the USA that are part of this program and they said I will not lose my Ohip because I am coming back in December? This did not make any sense to me. Does the "counter" reset once we come back? As I understand it, it is more than 212 days in ANY 12 month period. So, if we counted Sept. 3rd 2017 to Sept. 3rd 2018 the number of days is MORE than 212 days.

Any help appreciated!!

It's any 12 months period. The clock doesn't reset for every trip back to Canada. So my guess is you would lose OHIP and need to re-qualify for 3 month waiting period when you eventually return permanently.

Of course you can always just tell OHIP your situation and see what they say, or if they will make an exception.

Yes you should lose OHIP. The system may not catch you but if you don't reapply or advise OHIP once you become ineligible and you get caught you will be committing fraud the consequences will be enormous.
