My wife had been our baby born with medical card expired and she was renew it but never came and delay. But I have a medical card and canadian citizen and my wife was Permanent resident. I married her before one year our baby born. Now after one year we received a letter quebec health care that we have to pay $16 000 dollars for my wife birthing center in Saint-Justin Hospital. But I have a medical card with me and I am father and i am part of this baby he is my blood. why we have to pay that bills... Anyone knows about this to fight our human rights... Please help us

The fact you have a health card is irrelevant. Your wife is the one who needed to have a valid health card at the time of the baby's birth in order for the birth to be covered under the provincial health care system.

If your wife was a permanent resident at the time the baby was born, then it sounds to me like you certainly have a very good case - and I would seek the assistance of a good lawyer.

But again, your status and the fact you have a valid health card doesn't make a difference. What you have to prove is that your wife had coverage at the time your baby was born.
