Hi everyone,

Is there any forum member here who is/are going to Toronto from Dhaka in between 1st - 10th April by Turkish airlines? It would be a great help for me if I get a Family/Brother/Sister and with whom I can go on the same flight. I believe its always better having a deshi Bhai/Bon on the same flight when you are going to such a long journey.

I will appreciate your prompt response.

Sincerely,
Shammi

NEXT STOP CANADA: Helping New Immigrants Find out More About Life in Canada

I am a Filipina, who migrated from Singapore, and landed in Canada last August 2015. I am currently volunteering for YMCA of Greater Toronto. If you have any questions about migrating to Canada and you have already gotten your UIC number, I'd like to encourage you to register with YMCA's Next Stop Canada.

NextStopCanada.ca is a great way to find out about life in Canada, how to prepare for your move, what you need to do before you leave your home country and how you can bring your belongings tax free when you land in Canada.

It is a CIC funded program to help people from allover the world who are in the process of coming to Canada or have done a short landing.

They focus on the needs of the entire family, youth, adults and elders; and though they are focused on Ontario, they are offering Canada wide resources.

They are a team of immigrants themselves who speak many different languages and want to share their insider knowledge which is extremely important to know before arriving in Canada. It can save you money, time and bring you on a clearer road to success.

These services are free, as the Canadian Government funds them especially for you!

Ask them everything you want to know! Contact them as many times as you need answers.

You can contact all the pre-arrival services funded by CIC, you have the right to use all of them for free. If you dont like a service , you may move on to the next one until you find a good fit for you.

You need one of these documents to register:

Medical Examination or Security request letter
Letter requesting for passport submission
IRCC invitation letter to obtain pre-arrival services
Canadian Permanent Resident Visa
Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) letter

Dear Forum Mates,

I need your valuable advise.

As per BD govt rules, one can take max 5K USD cash and 2000 USD in card or equivalent to other currency but no one endorses CAD.
Therefore one have to take USD.
The question is if one carries 2000 USD in a card and withdraws the money in Canada, how much a Canadian bank might charge?
Do you have any idea?

Thanks

Re: NEXT STOP CANADA: Helping New Immigrants Find out More About Life in Canada

Hi

I would like to know for someone who has got PR (FSW14) and wants to go to Quebec after landing in Toronto. Consider she has got SIN using a non-Quebec address. Now if she moves to Montreal, should she expect any difficulties like Health Care facilities, Employment benefits, education in future for children (born in non-Quebec). It is understandable that first year she can not claim any benefits. But how about the bursaries (living expense) that people enjoy while they are in full time education in Montreal?

Hi folks

I worked in Singapore between Jul-2013 and Oct 2014, and now have to submit PCC/COC for the duration of my stay. Although the CIC website says that e-APR can be submitted without Singapore PCC for non-Singaporeans who are not in Singapore anymore and that you have to submit only when they ask for it post e-APR submission, I've read on other threads that people were able to obtain COC by submitting their ITA.

My question is, any non-Singaporean who is not in Singapore anymore, did they get it on their addresses and forwarded it CIC, or did SPF send the COC directly to CIC? CIC website says that it would not accept PCC/COC sent by mail.

The below quoted special notes are mentioned in their website:

Do I need to provide a Police Certificate for Express Entry?
Yes, but only after you submit your application. When you apply for permanent residence, you will be asked to upload a police certificate. Instead, you must upload a document that states: “I am applying from a country that requires an official request letter from IRCC to get a police certificate.”
We will then review your application. If it is otherwise complete, we will send you more information on how to get a police certificate. Please read the instructions above for more information.
We will not accept police certificates sent by mail for Express Entry applications.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/singapore.asp

Appreciate your help in this regard.

Hi,

I got the visa stamped and am going to Vancouver next week for a short trip to activate my visa. Am too much worried about the pof upon arrival.

Am going there with my wife and infant and am supposed to show the funds of around 20k SGD. If at all am carrying 8k in hands and 12k in form of demand draft (Travellers cheque no more available in singapore), am losing around 500$ SGD in exchange and other rates. Any other options?

Can I travel with full liquid cash?

If you bring in more than CAD 10k cash, you'll have to declare it. Moreover, you are supposed to keep and spend that money within Canada as your settlement funds. You can bring in more than 10k tax free, open a bank account and deposit the sum for spending it later.
