Filipino CPAs to Canada, What are your plans?

Hi Everyone!

I want to work in Canda but I don't know where to begin. I just passed the October 2016 exam but I have been working as a Financial Analyst for more than a year. I know kulang pa po ako sa experience pero gusto ko po talagang subukan. Tama po bang sa agency ako dumaan para may tutulong sakin sa mga proseso? And if yes, may mai-rerefer po ba kayong agency sa Pilipinas? Thank you so much in advance!

Gain enough experience and obtain specialty certification (e.g. CIA, CISA). I also recommend you to go public practice like Big 4. Mas madali ka makapag apply sa iba't ibang bansa kung meron ka nun sa resume mo.

I will have to check on those specialty certifications. Mukhang dapat talaga nag-Audit ako. Di kasi ako nag-audit dahil wala sa plano ko mag-abroad nung una and hindi lang talaga ako na-attract sa Audit. I think kailangan kong pag-isipan mga options. Ilang years of experience po ba sa audit or private. company ang normally tinatanggap or nakakapag-work sa Canda?

To be honest, it doesn't matter kung nag audit ka or not. What's more important is your education and how long have you been working in your field? Plus IELTS is a huge factor. It doesn't even matter kung CPA ka sa pinas or hindi. If I were in your shoes, I would go for 1 or 2 years Master course kahit sa PUP or PLM where courses are very cheap. Then upon completion, apply na agad. We didn't opt for agency, mahal kasi. nag DIY kami

I took Core 1 recently, pero dito sa Alberta. I think the exam is the same throughout Canada, what do you want to know?

Sadly, never heard of that. I've never seen a job post requiring such qualification. It's always been CPA, sometimes CISA or CIA or CFA but very rare.

For those who want to work in abroad daw po, maganda raw na magtake ng Certified Accounting Technician as it is an internationally-recognized qualification daw. Anyone here po na may alam tungkol sa Institute of Accounting Technicians, Canada?

^^ not so familiar with the accounting technician designation but I have read job postings for it in the careers page of the Big 4 firms in canada.. I believe the postings were advertised before the busy season, like during the last qtr of the year..

Hi guys! Just landed in Ottawa last week. I passed the cpa board exam 2016 and only have 9 months experience. Need a help regarding transcript assessment. University transcript Lang po ba ang kelangan in requesting assessment sa WES? How much po is the fee? Also, who have tried the new assessment po ng CPAOntario? Advice na din po sa job hunting here. Ano po possible job na pwede ko makuha/applyan sa Canada if bago dating pa lang ako? I'm a CPA in PH with 4 years of experience mostly audit from EY & Small audit firm sa Singapore. I'm planning to study din para makakuha ng certification either CGA/CA.

Hello po. CPA po ako dito sa pinas. Natapos ko na din po masteral ko. Naghihintay nlang po kmi ng visa to canada. Saskatchewan province po kami may job offer na po ang hubby ko dun kaya plano nmin mag aral nlang ako or take the challenge. Meron po ba sa saskatoon dito? Mostly kasi alberta ung nabasa ko.
