Good day!

My wife is going to complete her studies this April 2017, her visa expires on June 2017.
My visa expires on June 2017 as well.

She will be applying for Post Study Work Permit and seek for a job in her field which falls in B category on NOC.

I am currently working in Canada in B category as well and this April end I will have achieved 1 year of working in Canada in the same skill level.

I have heard that I would not be able to extend my Open Work Permit unless my wife gets a job and I would have to put her paperwork and apply.
Is this true? Is there any alternative for this?

She might get a 1 year contract job, but this is not confirmed yet. If she gets it, will it work and will I be able to apply to get 3 years work permit?

Requesting your advise.

Thanks & Regards,
Dinesh

Yes - it's true. You won't be able to extend your open work permit until your wife has a full time job that is NOC A, B or 0 (it doesn't have to be in her field) and until she has started that job (having a job offer isn't enough - she must have already started working).

If she does not have a qualifying job once your work permit is due to expire, you will have to apply to chance your status to visitor and stop working. Alternatively, your employer would need to obtain an approved LMIA so that you can apply for a closed work permit.
