Hi,
My ex-spouse left Canada in July 2015, we were living together when she left.
She left for a country that has a tax treaty with Canada and established official residence there in Dec 2015, she works, live, have health care, car, etc there.
We are actually separated since she left Canada but not divorced (de facto separation), she would like to change her status to non-resident for 2016 as she cannot be resident of the 2 countries that have tax treaties.
Could she just file a departure tax return for January 1st 2016 and we would both filll as separated from that date ?
For 2015 we filled with the same address and still as married because you cannot use and international address in tax software, how could she fill here departure tax return with her new foreign address ?
Thanks for your advice.

Thanks, and could we change status to separated from January 1st at the same time that her foreign address ?
Does she have to send a Non-resident package or a resident package with the departure date on Jan 1st ?
You cannot fill a departure date on the non-resident package and cannot fill a foreign address on the resident package ...
