me(Canadian) and my family just returned to Canada on Jan 2017 from a 3 years oversea job . While oversea, we have child and he received his Canadian citizenship around March 2016. Now that we are back, we're in the process of applying for CCB for our child and have a few questions hoping someone here will able to assist us on this.

1.we came back to Canada in Jan 1 2017 and applying for CCB now, will we get back the ccb payments from Jan 1 to till now? is there something in the forms I need to mention this as I don't see it

2.in the CR66 form, it asked us for Birth certificate of the child, does it has to be in English?

3. The CRA website said that to be eligible, one of the requirements is that you need to be reside in Canada , but it seems it is still possible by looking at Form CTB9 as it said
Use this form if you are receiving the Canada child benefit (CCB) and your spouse or common-law partner was a non-resident of Canada for tax purposes for any part of the tax year you indicated above.
Can someone clarify the purpose of CTB9 form, and can we claim back our CCB while oversea?

Thank you in Advance.

Were you paying taxes while you were overseas on all of your income as if you had never left Canada? Or did you take advantage of non-resident status and not file Canadian taxes while you were away?

Hi there , I was out of Canada for 12 years , and I returned on May 16 , I filed for my CCB , and I received the payments since May 1st , but I received it in August backdated. So you shouldn't have a problem.

Yes, CRA will retro pay you from Jan 1, but before that, no, you were not in Canada for 3 years.
