where and how much were the one way tickets? I hear you can fly with Air Canada or BA for greatly huge prices on oneway tickets

If you want cheap tickets go with Air Transat. One-way off-peak is around $300 or so.

Sorry, I should have mentioned. For a one-way flight from Toronto to Gatwick in February was around $350 tax incl. For those going to Edmonton, I wonder if it is cheaper to fly to Toronto and then take West Jet or similar to Alberta? I'd definitely shop around

We have booked through Canadian Affair.  When we went out last summer we flew return with Air Canada as they were £600....yep, £600 cheaper, this year they are over £1000 more 1-way?!?!  How does that work?!?

Canadian Affair are the only ones flying to Edmonton from Gatwick, we've booked a hire car from the airport for a couple of weeks too so everything is on one booking - and now we have the fun of our families making a huge embarrassing hysterical scene at the departure gate - I can't wait.    The 07:30 flight time hasn't put them off, so I booked in at the Hilton for the night before (04:30 check in with two 2yr olds, not good!) but they STILL say they will come up to say goodbye...damn them.

Ahh I found it was cheaper buying return on Canadian Affair than one way in January.

Hi,

My package was delivered around an hr ago.

In detailed, below is the story.

I mailed the passport from within Canada to Fort Erie. The issue which happened was the item was to be delivered to a PO box in Fort Erie and I requested for a signature confirmation. So the status on Canada Post said that delivery was attempted and notice card was left for the recipient to pick up the parcel from the post office. They dont redeliver, they only return it back to Sender after 15 days.

I called up the Fort Erie post office this morning and he explained that the Buffalo Consulate person comes 2-3 times a week to Fort Erie to pick up the packages. Since the amount of mail is so huge, they pick up the packages from across the counter. At that time, even those packages which ask for a signature confirmation are also delivered. So he said this is normal to happen and I should not be worried. There has been snow in the last 2 days in Buffalo and noone had come from Consulate to pick up the packages. He said that the person might come today. The person was very reassuring and said that your package will be delivered.

I was finally relieved when I saw that the parcel had been delivered around an hr back.

I am working within a very tight timeline, I needed the passport back as I was going to travel for Christmas to another country on Dec 23. Also, Buffalo needed the passports by Dec 21. I know its pretty tight. I am hoping to get the passport back by Dec 23, or else I would need to drop my plans.

My plan is to do the landing on the way back to Canada on January 2nd, 2011. So just hoping that the passports come on time.

Hi bonbon! my husband will be landing here in winnipeg on december 12 so our sponsorship and immigration process is good as complete

It took a little while but I think I am the first inlander to have a bit of information.  Contacted CIC this morning, application has been opened and started as of Nov 14th.  Nice to know it is no longer sitting in a mail room .  Seems like lots of other applications have come a long way and some of your will be joining me here in Canada shortly....anyone moving to Quebec by any chance (it's a great province)!

I'm going to highlight those who have finished this process. And also, here's a small chance to our waiting list.. Everyone please post your expected month/year to received your visa and land!

I'll bet for February 2011 for my case. Pretty straight forward case: 4 years age difference (husband's older), both technology professionals, same interests, 10+ years of long distance relationship, no kids or previous marriages, no criminal offenses, no skin color difference, same religion, and never been illegal/denied access to any country. Yeah, we're perfect for each other!!

Does anyone know how long it takes for background checks? Do they check your background at every country you've visited?

EDIT: Well, well, well! Guess who just got her AOR in her email? Husband and I are ultra-excited!
I hope my AOR will start a rain of AOR's on all those going through Latin American VO's.

It is a simple AOR; they usually send this when they start processing your file and assign a Client ID to the applicant. You must have received one of these when they first opened your file. I don't know much about appeals, but I don't know if they would send you another AOR the second time they start processing. I'm guessing they wouldn't because you have already been assigned a Client ID.

Please avoid using all caps when posting. It is annoying to read.

So I'm going to be ignorant and ask a question that has been asked many times!

After receiving the sponsorship approval, I haven't heard anything from CIC. The AOR is in letter format, right? So besides waiting for this physical letter (or email) to come, what else can I do? Is there any point of checking ecas? And if so, do I use my sponsor's info, or the client number I was given a long time ago when I was an international student in Canada?

Hi MissyIffy - London doesn't issue these for some reason.  You will see in Process on E-Cas tho which will let you know they have openeed it!

But I was wrong to grow impatient - just got something from them today! YEAH! I most definitely wasn`t patiently waiting!!!

Been pretty slow for us, we recently paid the  RPRF last week. No update on e-cas and AOR on Nov 15. We are hoping to to have PPR very soon. The waiting is a killer.
