Hello,
Based on peoples experiences here, how long does an "outland application" to sponsor spouse take from start to finish given the following: 1) straight forward case 2) Canadian sponsoring a British national 3) common-law
Thanks in advance

5 months
realistically your looking at 5 - 8 months. 5 would be the absolute quickest.

Hey thisdj1, congratulations on being done with Step1, that's great! I believe that you should update your VO about moving back to Canada. you can go to the London Office website, and there is an explanation about it. see here http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/visas/contact_visa_contactez.aspx?view=dyou might be able to update your address using ecas ( but I wouldn't know for sure as I haven't been approved yet so I can not log in!). I don't think you need to update the VO about the fact that your husband is going to visit you. If anything, keep the plane tickets etc, so if you are asked for more proofs of relationship, you can show that although you moved back to Canada, he came with you for a month etc... Cheers, Sweden

Thanks Sweden! I did'nt realise that i could move over and wait for my PR in Canada! This is prob the option that we will take, as there is no sense applying for another visa for my husband as we wouldn't see the whole visa through. So just so i understand fully...once i send the application away and my husband is approved(here's hoping!)is this the point that i can move over? And then send my passport to the london office from Canada once they ask for it? At the border would i say i was waiting for the visa? would i need to buy a return ticket? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks Michele

According to CIC website processing times are 93 days for step 1 (Sponsor Approval) and up to 7 months for step 2 (PA Approval) Add those 2 steps together and then prepare yourself for that wait (somewhere in the region of 10 months) I am a British national as well, applying at the end of May 2012 and would love to have this completed by end of the year but realistically I think Feb-Mar is a lot more likely. Also London VO appears to be relatively slow in relation to places like New Delhi, Havana and Buffalo but fingers crossed for you and hope it is the 5 month process somebody posted it was

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks Michele Hey Michelle, Don't worry about asking questions - that's what the forum is for! I think it's easier to move once your husband is approved, as at least you have some kind of guarantee that the first step at least is over - but you could also move before that. The only problem with moving before the PR is that you can't work, and don't have health insurance for example. But you're free to come and go (for outland process. For inland you have to stay in Canada). Since you are from a visa exempt country - then you won't have to send your passport. You will receive your COPR ( confirmation of PR), either by mail or in the post and you can "land" with that - and you can do all that while in Canada. The only thing to do is to make sure that you update your VO about your new address once you move to Canada ( and that's easier to do once it's in the VO because you will have a file number and can update your file etc). At the border, you can bring proofs that you have applied for a PR ( receipt of the application fee, photocopy of some parts of your application or sponsorship approval) and it's up to the officer to decide to let you in or not ( but usually no problem), and how long - most people are given from 6 to 12 months visa, without trouble. I am not completely sure you need a return ticket, you might need that or proofs of funds ( to show that you can leave Canada if you were denied). I haven't done it myself, but lots of other people have, and it doesn't seem complicated. I intend to do that in October, I'm moving to Canada with or without PR :-) and hoping for the best. Cheers, Sweden

I am also planning to come to Canada in December hopefully with my COPR but more than likely it will be on a 6-12 month TV which should be ample time to finish off any loose ends with application (fingers crossed) What I want to know is if whilst I am on my TV I do get my COPR do I need to leave Canadian shores and comeback or can I take my COPR to the nearest airport/ VO and have all documents verified without actually leaving Canada. Any information would be much appreciated because this may factor in to me selling/ letting my U.K property and tying up any additional situations before I head to Canada on my TV. It would save me returning from Canada just to collect my COPR. Also in response to 1 question asked I do think if you come on a TV you should be in receipt of a flight out of Canada but sometimes proof of funds (Bank statement) MAY be suffice but the risk is greater of refusal without a return ticket home. Best thing to do would be to take a long hard think what you want and if you decide to go down the route of no return flight then speak to somebody more official than us on the boards. Would hate to see anybody being refused entry purely because they do not have a return flight.

Hey ! Once you have the COPR, you don't need to leave Canada and return to the UK. You can complete the landing procedures by either exiting Canada ( to the US usually, if you're not too far) and entering right away, or completing the landing procedures at the nearest international airport. GOod luck with packing etc! Sweden

Hi All members!
I got a question regarding the bring forward date. I was asked to redo a chest x-ray before they finalize the process which is the final touch as everything else is completed and the letter i received from Cic London in regard to addition medical request stated that i had to submit the requested info within 90 days which i already did within a week, so coming to question does the officer have to look at my file again after 90 days or is it like s/he has to look at it when received it?
Has anyone encountered the some process or has experience on this matter? Your comments will be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times over but who did you guys get your supporting letters from? My boyfriends' parents are writing one (which will be notarised), and the owner of the nightclub I used to work at is writing another one for me, and so is my closest friend. I'm not sure who I should use for the second notarised one. Should I try and get one from my side of the family? My mum (lives in England) knows about the relationship but has not met my boyfriend but she wouldn't have a problem writing the letter. It'd just take some time for her to get it done and then to post it over here. Sorry, rambling, but this whole process is just starting to get me down now (a feeling I'm sure you're all very familiar with!) and I just want to get the bloody thing done. Thanks
