I appreciate it's going to take time and I am conditioning myself for the long wait. I think the worst thing about it is the putting my life on hold almost thinking what will happen? When will it happen? Silly considering the app isn't even sent yet. As for putting the application together.... What a task. Did everyone else feel like it just takes over your lives? I'm looking forward to getting it sent off in that respect so I stop reading and re reading our answers.

I will be staying in the UK for the process and my sponsor (wife) will be in Canada and we will maintain seeing each other whenever is possible around our work schedules.

Whatever happens I will be updating these boards along the way.

I sent my passport to the UK on the 11th of October and it was signed for on the 17th.

I'm not even to start looking for it's return for another couple of weeks. I shall let you all know when it finally arrives back.

@  Mittens & Chrischris, I can't believe you two haven't even heard anything yet. If it were me I'd at the very least send them an email asking if they've sent me any correspondence.  Sad

How did you know it was signed? Did they update on eCAS or sent you an email?

I sent it registered. ecas is pretty pointless. It went form application received to decision made a week after my passport was requested. Never showed in process.

The October 17th in process update is probably for the application for PR at the London office then.

Hi all, I just recently found this forum and it's so helpful! This is my first post, and I'm not sure if anyone knows the answer. We sent the application (outland) in mid-August (hasn't been processed yet, according to website), and my husband (British) is currently staying with me in Canada as a tourist because I'm pregnant and he doesn't want to leave me during this time. I'm due in February, which is when my husband's 6 month tourist visa ends but he doesn't want to fly back to London just in case I have the baby. He's not currently working so we can't provide the documents the CIC needs to apply for an extension to his tourist visa. Does it count if we drive to Buffalo and he crosses the border and comes back? Will they stamp his passport again?

Thanks in advance!

Can't you just apply online to extend his stay as a visitor and then he will be on implied status until they make a decision.

Well, to apply online (or by paper) they ask for "Proof of means of financial support that demonstrate that you can support yourself and any accompanying family member while you stay in Canada (for example, your bank statements for the past four months, a bank draft in convertible currency, or proof of payment of tuition and residence fees)." but since my husband is out of work and will be staying with me for 6 months, I'm the one that will be supporting us. Does anyone know what a bank draft in convertible currency is?

Well how do you plan to support yourselves? Does he have any money in a UK account? If so, print a bank statement. And do you work/have an income? Show your bank statement and show you will support your husband during his stay with you.
I'm sure thats perfectly acceptable for you, the canadian citizen to support him while he stays as a visitor.
The fee for this is $75.

That aside, even it the extension is denied, he will be on implied status until he gets a response. If you apply by mail, the processing time is 142 days (76 online). His 6 months is up in Feb, so if you apply in January you won't hear anything until at least May. I am pretty much certain he will be a landed PR by then.

In addition, it could work crossing over into the US and then returning, however I did this once, after having been in Canada just over 5 months. We crossed over by car and I was almost denied entry into the US until they deemed I was 'canadas problem'. I was absolutely terrifed heading back to Canada... However they seemed ok and quite friendly. Long story short, the whole thing was so nerve wracking I wouldn't recommend it!
If i had known about the 'extend your stay' option back then I would of done it in a heartbeat!

Check my spreadsheet below showing processing times at the London office.

Thanks pinklady! That's very, very helpful! I'm going to try doing what you suggest. Thanks for the quick response - I don't have to stress too much about it anymore!

You're welcome, I'm happy to help!

The spreadsheet gives people hope when the website shows it will take 8 months to process in London. Most take much less time than that.

I am guessing you'll get your PPR in February. Your husband will be able to send it to London from Canada and also have it returned to him here, then he'll need to cross into the US and head back to canada to 'land'. Lots of people 'flagpole' but I went shopping for the day before heading back Smiley

Good luck with everything!
