Okay, so that means yes you do have to fill out an ESTA travelling by car from Canada?
I'm looking at the ESTA site and it says that if you have a UK passport you can apply for an ESTA.

Is the ESTA a replacement for the form you used to have to fill in about moral turpitude and stuff on the plane before landing in the US? I've not come across this thing before and now I am wondering if I have to do it when we cross to the states and back so I can land.

Well I have used it before. Everyone travelling to the US since 2009ish who are from Visa Waiver countries have to fill this out online before arriving in the US.

My confusion comes from 1st. wether I have to fill out travelling by car (because it asks for carrier/flight number etc) and 2nd. What do I put for Address while in the united states as it is a day trip.

What also baffles me is the last time I applied for an ESTA was 20/10/2009 but when I put in Application Number from that it says it is expired even though it is supposed to last 2 years.

This is kinda odd, got an update today under sponsorship:

We received your application to sponsor XXXXXXX on July 28, 2011.

We started processing your application on August 11, 2011.'

But then under PR application status it says "Application Received."

We now have 2 rows of status.

Sponsorship               PR Application status

In Progress                  Application received
Decision made               Application received

Reading other ppl's replies sounds like we're not the only one!

From this site: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/esta-usa-visa

"If you're travelling to the US by land, say from Canada or Mexico, you don't need ESTA. It's only necessary for travel by air or sea."

I landed today, everything went really smooth. Spend the day in Burlington, VA and came back to land. It took 20 minutes, the officer was very helpful, friendly and professional. Very easy and positive experience and I am just glad to be finished! Thanks for everyones help on here. Good luck to people still in process, it's worth the wait - the words "Okay, you are now a permanent resident of Canada" were amazing to hear.

I too have this same info, when logging in with my Receipt #.  If I log in with Immigration file number, my husbands address is missing.  I'm guessing it's all just a glitch???

I'm still waiting for sponsorship approval - can't wait to hear those words when I land! Here's hoping London is speedier than CIC-M...

Hi, I've been lurking around here for a while, the forum has been a great help to keep sane during the application process.

How long does it take for London to send you a letter informing of the decision once Ecas has been updated?

We applied back in May (my wife completed the application and went into labour that evening!), Mississauga received it on 13 May, Sponsorship approved on the 15th June, London received it on 27th June, started processing 26th August, and the status was changed to 'Decision Made' on the 27th August.

I've been waiting anxiously for the post every day, but nothing so far. I'm sure we gave them email addresses, but nothing there either.

How long did it take for you?

Hi John,
I don't think there is any set time. Some people wait weeks, others wait a day. Also it doesnt matter whether you provide email address or not, sometimes they contact via email, sometimes just regular mail.
All you can do it be patient.
Sorry I can't help more.

Thanks for the reply Pinklady.

Last year we applied for my eldest daughter's proof of Canadian Citizenship and London sat of a confirmation letter from Mississauga for three months. Hope it's not that long! I know there has been a bank holiday this end, and also Labour Day too, so maybe I should keep that in mind. It's just that it is so close, so very close, after a long process.
