 @  avon
I would also strongly advise to refrain from the words "moving to Canada" since you are not legally allowed to do that yet, and it will be to the discretion of the border guard you get whether to allow you in the country or not. Some are nice, others are not so much. I would also make sure I am able to show proof of ties to the US (rental agreements, bank statements, employment contracts, etc).  Having said that, my husband has had a much easier time entering Canada since submitting the application, but he always just comes to visit and has a return ticket.

We have driven from Toronto to Vancouver once, and Toronto to Montana twice, always going through the US. It is much faster and much cheaper than going through Canada. We have always crossed the border at Detroit/Windsor. At least back then (4-5 years ago), it was very fast and hassle free.

 @  avon,
I guess you will be coming from California...Then, I would suggest to cross the border to BC. That way, in case you get denied entry, you don't have as long to drive back (sorry, I feel like a party pooper Sad). My husband used to come visit me a lot in Vancouver from Seattle and always used the truck crossing at Blaine. Much much faster than Peace Arch.

Getting my car across?  Exactly what paperwork do I need to do before going across the border with it.  Do I need the title or will a copy of it suffice as my wife has the title with her?  Anything else from the DMV here in California.

"Well, since you're not "moving" (if you are, you'll likely be denied entry as you don't yet have PR) to Canada, and you're just visiting, I suspect registration and proof of insurance is sufficient.  You'll have to take the car back to the US when you land and do the export/import procedure then."

I also called them and the gentleman I spoke to was extremely helpful on the phone!!!

avon, this site it quite helpful in figuring out the "visiting while PR is in process" - http://www.us2canada.com/
In particular, http://www.us2canada.com/visitor_record.html

If they think you're moving with no ties to take you back to the US, before PR is granted, you WILL NOT get through. You have to play the game. Have your spouse with you and have them do the talking.

I posted this in my March thread as they all seem to have luck getting in touch with Buffalo but it went unanswered. Can anyone help?

I still cant even get a reply from my inquiry to change my address and I'm leaving my island exactly a week from today. I've now sent my fourth just this Monday morning (been trying since the end of May)..... I know they have received them as I get the auto response every time.... any pointers?

I am the principal applicant, all I have is my husbands Client ID from his sponsorship letter. I have included tons of information in each e-mail............... please help!

The problem is it is Buffalo's policy NOT to reply to these standard "just updating my address/info" inquiries. They read your email/fax/letter, update your file, and move on. The OTHER problem is that it seems you don't have your Buffalo file number yet anyway, so it's even less likely that they will get back to you or confirm any updates -- if they were even able to update anything without a file number from you in the first place.

Here is their official page about updating info on your file with them. Note where they list the info they'd need you to include with the update, and also where they state this:

"In order to best use our resources, we will not send confirmation that we have received your documents and updated your file.  If you would like confirmation of receipt, you can send your documents by registered mail.  Once we receive your documents, we will update your file.  You will not be contacted until it is necessary."

Yep. Nada. My last "update", if you could call it that, was in my post yesterday.

Dear Applicant:

This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada.  We are now in a position to request your passports for visa issuance.

Please submit your passport(s) before date......

I just got my PPR, and am so happy that I don't have to make up something to try to go see my family. I wish everyone the very best of luck, and here is hoping that Buffalo continues to pick up.  Thank you all for the support through this time.

Hi all, just an update, we just picked up our visa/copr from UPS. Just have to get things organized to land now.

Does anyone know what to do in regards to goods to follow, as we do not have a place for put all his furniture at this time so we would only like to bring up a few things, like TV, electronics etc. Like is there a certain time that we have to bring up the rest of his furniture.

And I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support and help throughout this entire process, it would of been a lot harder not being able to relate to anyone. Wishing Buffalo speeds things up for all that are still waiting.

Congratulations to both who received PPR's today. One couple was waiting since December and the other from March that is great for them Smiley.  I am so happy for both that they are done and wish them the best. However after seeing PPR's issued 2 months after my wife applied is really testing my patience. My wife's application is extremely straight forward and should be done by now but I guess they skipped straight over the month of January? I am really having a hard time with this.

However, like I said very happy for those who are done and I do mean that. My frustrations and anger lay with Buffalo
