I am in similar situation (Canadian with a Cnadaian/American baby) and my husband (American) is here with me but is not employed (until he  gets PR).  We moved here as a family in June.  The customs guys at the Toronto Island Airport are super nice and all went smoothly.  We even signed for all our earthly belongings that we moved up here from the States and the customs warehouse, and everything was cool.

Yes, my husband has been here with me for part of the PR process. No problems at the border.

My American husband also moved here with me last month as a visitor.  I was freaked out, anticipating the worst.  The immigration officer at the border looked at our paperwork in process and gave him a 12 month visitor visa, attached in his passport.  It was a smooth process-they didn't even open up our U-haul, but we did have a very detailed, itemized list with pictures of the contents of each itemized tote that we had packed.  They seem to take the dual intent for granted, and did not even have to mention that was the reason we were using to move here.  My husband does not have a job (can not, per immigration guidelines) and that was no problem.  They did not even ask if i had a job to support him.  You should be fine crossing into Canada.  I've heard they use their discretion and sometimes give 6 months or 12.  you can extend it by 6 months from what I understand, if the process is not complete by the deadline of the visitor visa.

Thank you minna! Yes, very strange... I have been working on it since mid-2009 and thought I'd be mailing it out in January... but I am very relieved to finally have a timeline.

My hubby's sponsorship has been approved and my file is sent to Buffalo NY!!  Yay!  As soon as my FBI certificate gets forwarded to here in Canada, I will be shipping it to the Buffalo office along with the copy of the approval letter.

I guess I just wait for the "in process" on e-cas when it is ready!

yeah I was very pleased to see how fast it got through CIC-M.  On top of that the approval letter came 3 days after the decision was made and almost the same day I could log onto the E-cas!  (and my E-cas got updated on early Friday morning! like Just after 1am!!!!)

Don't worry too much about this. I got this also while my file was in between Mississagua and Buffalo. It just means that the app is probably at the Buffalo office but they haven't started processing it so they don't have anything on file for you yet. It took around 6 weeks after the file was transfered for them to start processing in Buffalo.

hey so ur processing time was only 4 months right?T

I've offically landed. Everything went very smoothly meeting with the IO. I went through the Edmonton airport en route to Ft St John, BC. The IO asked why I was there and I showed her the papers I got from Buffalo, then she sent me to a room where another IO pulled up a file on the computer and asked me to sign the paper in 3 places, stamped a page in my passport and told me the PR card will be in the mail in a month and good luck on my new life in Canada. Smiley My timeline only took 4 months.

I picked up my visa in Buffalo. Some advice to those that are going: get in line at the consulate before 7:30. The paper I was sent said they start at 8 but when i got there at 7:30am there was already quite a few people there and the people said they started processing at 7:30. I would suggest going in at 7. I got through at around 8:30 then waited an hour to get the visa.

Since I marked on my application for the visa office in Seattle, would I be sending my passport there or Buffalo when they request it? and if you can't make it to Buffalo, would they mail the visa to me, or do I personally have to travel there and pick it up? (Since I am in Oregon, I chose Seattle, WA for visa office if needed) I'm just a little confused as to what I will have to do.

Congrats Nej!! Good luck on your new journey! Smiley So happy for you and looking forward to my landing!
