So... while I've been here awhile, I still am uncertain on some of the abbreviations.
GCMS notes... what are they?  When can you start getting them?  Etc..

GCMS = Global Case Management System. They are the computer notes that CIC uses for outland application processing - including permanent resident applications as well as other applications (TRVs, TRPs, work permits, study permits, etc.)  It is the compliment to the inland computer system (FOSS) and replaced "Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System' (CAIPS).

You can technically ask for them any time, but it's best to have a UCI or file number, since that's how the ATIP ("Access To Information and Privacy") folks find your records.

Note that the new form (May 2012) now includes an e-mail address, so you can fill in the form and e-mail it to them.  From my experience, they pull the computer notes immediately (within a day or two of receipt) and then send them to you a month later - so you are always seeing information that is a bit old.  However, the notes will tell you if there are problems, where they are (or were) in the process, anything that might be missing, anything that was received, etc.

GCMS notes are MUCH clearer than CAIPS notes (which are hideously complicated to read/understand) in my experience.  I've never seen FOSS notes.

I think I'll be waiting since I'm only 1 month into the application process.  I've not even gotten sponsor approval or AOR yet Tongue  Though the file number/UCI... would that not be the same as the Client ID on my visitor extension?

Burro express - strap it to a stray burro, point it in the right general direction, slap it on the butt and hope it gets there before the burro expires. It's best attribute is that it's cheap!  Tongue

Seriously, though, the problem is that all this paperwork we're talking about is sent under diplomatic seal.  When those trucks filled with documents show up at the US border, they are in trucks that MUST NOT be inspected (the truck itself is a "diplomatic pouch" - or maybe the boxes inside are diplomatic pouches, but at any rate they are not subject to inspection.)  CIC batches these things up and ships them in bunches (I recall reading a paragraph in the operations manuals talking about a case in which if the next diplomatic pouch would be longer than a week the specific item should be sent via courier.)

Yes - once you have a UCI it is your client ID for all CiC applications Smiley.  You can use it to see when they receive your application through e-case.

These are just some thoughts based on the information available, what I've read, and my experience.  I am not an expert; if you want the facts, cic.gc.ca has a wealth of information.  Good luck with your application!  Hope you have a wonderful day *smile*

Yup - IIRC, that's for privacy requests that ask for a copy of the full case notes (not just electronic records)

Hi, there Smiley

You should receive it in the next 2-3 weeks.   The timing is currently at 47 business days for new residents - check http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp ... it's usually very accurate as to which applications just got processed and mailed out.

Hope settling in is going very well.

What do you mean by adding " mailling address " to your husband 's page?  Is he the sponsor or are you ? sorry I'm a bit confused .. Mailing address has always been on the ECAS..
