I agree, I made sure to put my email address on the letter I addressed to my IO with the financial information hoping that they'd email my PPR and it seems like it worked Smiley
Mailing from the consulate to where I live only takes one day anyway, but still..

Ok...I am getting really confused.  I am trying to figure a couple of things out here.  I got married in July of 2010, we have been working on all the paperwork.  Does the medical and FBI clearance all have to be completed before we file the application or after???  Has anyone had any experience travelling back and forth across the border before/during the application process??  My mom is so scared that if we cross the border to visit each other that we are going to get "blacklisted" and not be able to travel at all, and that it will look bad on us, and could jeopardize our application.

My other question is...can we have a medical exam done here for him?  I have been looking at the prices and its half of what the DMP there wants to charge for it.  We do have a vacation planned in the near future, so was wondering if anyone knew whether the DMP in my area can do the medical examination....

Please if anyone can help that would be great.  We will be filing through the Buffalo office, I am assuming.  This whole process is really starting to confuse me, and we are only at the beginning!!!! Embarrassed

Stumpedmom, I would very highly suggest that you send everything in with your application. Your medical HAS to be done before you apply. Your FBI and everything else they require really needs to be sent in all at once. You should also pay all the fees before you send the application.

You can imagine these government offices with all the paperwork.. do you really want to be sending your important information in piece by piece? You have a much better chance of getting through the process quickly if they don't have to request documents from you and wait for you to send them in.

I would also obtain two copies of the FBI certificate if you can. Sometimes the offices lose these things, even if you send it in all together, and the FBI is the hardest document to obtain.

Yes, FBI has been a headache for many people on the forum unfortunately.  Order one to submit as soon as possible. I'd also recommend ordering an additional set (with a separate set of prints) around the same time.  This way if one set of prints comes back as unreadable hopefully the other set will be ok.

It won't jeopardize the application if you were to get blacklisted, but if you're denied entry for a period of time, it won't matter if your application is approved before that time. No matter what happens, you'd have to wait until the period of time has ended. It sounds scary, but there is practically no chance of you being banned from Canada so long as you are completely honest with the people at the border and it does not look like you are trying to cross permanently, PR or not.

So long as you have a home and a job to return back to, visits should be fine, even long visits, but they might want to see proof that you are applying for PR. The fee receipt is key to this, but copies of other paperwork might be useful. Frequent visits (say, weekly, or even more often) might annoy the border people if they start to expect that a non-Canadian is spending more time in Canada than outside Canada.

My husband and I live about fours apart, he in Canada and me in the States.  One of us travels nearly every weekend and things have been fine so far (knock on wood).  We've been doing this for nearly three years now (as husband and wife since February).  But yes, bring proof and always be honest.  In the state I live in (Maine) crossborder relationships are nothing new, the border guards are (thankfully) pretty blase about the whole thing.
