Ugh, I am so frustrated right now!
I have checked my paperwork for the apartment I've been residing with my CL at since September (we lived with his parents from May-September and have statement of this), and moved into his apartment he has for while he's in school in September 2011... well the paper states that I am an occupant and that he's still fully responsible for everything. So no big, we decide we'll go talk to her to see if we can get me on as a leaseholder and request a backdated lease for immigration. No. Why? I lack Canadian employment -- what...? The only way I could be put on any form of a lease is to apply under a new lease with him and go through credit check, etc and start a new year lease now. (we're planning to move this summer so that's moot -- not to mention it would be a new lease, not showing we've been sharing residential responsibility).. The way they do receipt here is you can go get a print out of previous months.. but I'm not on the lease so I don't think she will add my name... so I don't know what to do.
I'm actually panicking because this is like the single most important form of Hard Evidence. As an occupant.. I just look like a roommate. I'm gonna find out here in a bit if I can get the payment statement.. but without lease, don't I just look like a roommate/girlfriend? What if I can't get the statement? Anyone go into applying common law like this... or know someone who has? I'm scared to death.
Edit: she only gave a statement saying that I've been a resident in the apartment since September 1, 2011 but would not give a rental receipt since she 'can't know for sure' since it was always his or his mom's debit card paying.

So I just found a typo on the form that asks for background info, specifically residency.
I listed the dates I lived in a particular place as 12/2008-11/2008. It should have been 12/2008-11/2009. Should I correct and resubmit it or wait to see if they ask? The dates for the residencies before/after that one are correct, so it's really obvious what the mistake was.
I'm also not sure if I found and corrected that before I sent it, or not.

So today I checked E-CAS and my status finally changed to "In Process". I have not checked E-CAS for about 2 weeks so Im not sure when it changed but this is what it says: We received your application for permanent residence on August 23, 2011. We started processing your application on March 14, 2012. Medical results have been received. Also, this afternoon I was very shocked to see an email from New York Visa office requesting my passport. So PPR fro me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be mailing a copy of my passport tomorrow morning! Congrats Rouge...Wow...Yours and my schedule have been a week apart from application received to file transfer to NY up until now...U beat me in the race and got the PPR!!! We sent in application on Aug 19th..file transferred to NY on Feb 22....In process ever since...So did the e-mail tell u whether u can submit passport in person?..can you enclose a pre-paid post envelope when u send in ur passport? Also did ur e-cas change to Decision made? Congrats again..happy for u:)

Its not a biggie, I wouldnt worry too much about it until they specifically ask for it.

So I know that you can bring your passport in to the Buffalo office but are you able to bring it in person to the satellite offices once you get PPR?

In general, the answer seems to be yes - if they have hours for other visa classes, they will also handle PRs.

If I have a letter stating that I've been residing since said date, and then a letter from his parents stating we resided in their home for the 4 months prior to that will it be enough to prove things? The way we've done rent has been where he (or his mom since OSAP didn't pay as much as we needed) would cover rent when I covered grocery/household things, and some months I just withdrew money for rent. I don't have steady receipt so I'm not sure how to handle things... I mean, for the first 4 months of our cohabiting, I paid nothing.. we lived with his parents.

I just got my PPR from Buffalo!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW.
However, as usual, the e-mail is confusing. Here it is:
"Dear Applicant:
This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada. We are now in a position to finalise your application.
Within the next 90 days please submit your passport(s) or a photocopy of all passport pages for you and your accompanying family members.
We also require two (2) recent photographs of yourself and each accompanying family member.
The issuance of your Confirmation of Permanent Resident document(s) is time sensitive so it is important for you to submit your passport(s) or passport photocopies as requested. You must submit these items by mail. We recommend that you submit a prepaid envelope for the return of your Confirmation of Permanent Resident document(s) and passport(s). Please refer to our mailing instructions for further information.
Please note, though your passport(s) or passport photocopies are due at our office within the next 90 days, you must check your documents upon receipt. There will be a validity date indicated, and you must become a Permanent Resident on or before that date. The validity of the Confirmation of Permanent Resident documents cannot be extended. If you are not prepared to live permanently in Canada immediately after landing, please consult the website regarding residency requirements in order to ensure that you retain your status in Canada.
DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE.
FOLLOW THE LINKS BELOW FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Passport requirements
Photographs, height and eye colour
Instructions for passport submission
Important notice for family members
Immigration Section/Section de l'immigration
Consulate General of Canada
Consulat général du Canada
Buffalo, New York "
So, it says I must submit it via mail, however when I click on the mailing instructions link it says I have two options that I can mail it or I can drive up to Buffalo (completely feasible from where I am) and submit in person. Buh? So, which is it...can I drive up there and do it in person bypassing the waiting for the mail or do I have to mail it? Holy crap.

Wow, your app went FAST! Congrats! As far as I know, you can still go to Buffalo in person. I did, and I know lots of others here did too. Getting it all done in one day is just better than waiting weeks for the mail (in my opinion, anyway... I was only there for a few hours!) That being said, I got my PPR right before they made the switch from requiring the passport to put in the counterfoil along with the COPR. I have no idea how it works now that visa-exempt applicants no longer require the counterfoil... Hopefully someone with a more recent PPR can confirm/deny everything I just said here!
