Well the bank wouldn't accept the COPR, and the lady said my SIN number had to be on the actual card not the piece of paper. Which I have no idea why because the lady who gave me it said it could be used as a temp card until i got the real one.

I'd be super happy they wrote me back so quickly! Can't say for sure if it is a good sign, but it's a good sign it was so specific to you and not some generic reply. Means they know something about your file.

How long has your file been sitting in Buffalo? I am wondering if we should write them. It's been almost 2 months and we haven't heard anything.

I setup a bank account with RBC with my temp SIN and passport only when I arrived with my work permit.

That's weird. I set up a joint bank account with my husband a year ago, using my US driver's license and passport, and I still haven't landed yet.

Go to a different branch Wink   Sometimes they can be picky at certain branches but there's no reason why they can't do it (and, btw, proving your SIN number is optional - they are much pickier about it's privacy in Canada than even SSN's in the US - so having an actual card is absolutely not a requirement).

These are just some thoughts based on the information available, what I've read, and my experience.  I am not an expert; if you want the facts, cic.gc.ca has a wealth of information.  Good luck with your application!  Hope you have a wonderful day *smile*

Many forum members believe that medical is among the last steps of the process, and any movement is a good sign!   Tongue  You're getting there!  Smiley

Buffalo emailed me back today (less than 24 hours, a record!) and said they had emailed me requesting me to get the xray in february which they didnt, I would definitely know if they had because I check my email all day waiting to hear from them! So Ill get the xray tomorrow and fax it to Buffalo, do you think its a good sign they got back to me so quickly?? Maybe they'll issue my PPR when they get the meds? is that just wishful thinking? lol

For reference, it took 2 weeks from NYC receiving my passport copy to me receiving the CORP.  Here are more details.

4/23 - Copy of passport delivered at NYC by Fedex.
5/1 - COPR issued (as per the Issued date on COPR).
5/2 or 5/3 - Mailing Address on eCAS changed to from a full address to an address only contains city and country.
5/4 - eCAS Status changed from 'In Process' to 'Decision Made'.
5/8 - COPR arrived at Canadian address (regular mail).

Yes try another branch and even another Branch.

I remember when I tried opening a joint savings/chequing account with my partner who at the time was in the states on a work visa.  I think I went to 4-5 different bank/branches.  All of them gave different answers.  It wasn't until i reached CIBC that they finally gave us the go ahead to open a joint account.

Inspired by other members, I e-mailed Buffalo today as it's been nearly 2 months since our file was forwarded to them and we have yet to hear anything. In my e-mail I was very plain and simple. Basically: just that I was approved as the sponsor and file was transferred to them and here is our file number and UCI, our names, and asked about the file.

This is the form letter I got back:

Dear Madam / Sir,

For information about your sponsorship, please contact the Case Processing Centre (CPC) in Canada:

CPC Mississauga
P.O. Box 3000, Station A
Mississauga, ON
Canada
L5A 4N6

Fax (905) 803-7392

If you are residing in the USA, contact CPC Mississauga by fax or letter.

If you are in Canada, you can reach the Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) call center at

1 888 242-2100

See also this CIC Web page:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/call.asp

I guess my mistake was mentioning my sponsorship approval? Totally threw them off? They read sponsorship and stopped reading there and just clicked option "2" of their standard form letters and sent?   Huh

I went into the bank today to close my last account.

I've noticed that "I'm moving out of the country and need to cancel my account" let me cut through all the "So we have this offer..." the reps are supposed to do to make you stay while cancelling my phone and internet accounts, so I led with that.

Had to talk to a teller to get a couple money orders done, then a banker to get the account closed, then another teller to get the last bit withdrawn. What was cool is that by the time I walked out, basically everyone in the bank was like, "Have a safe trip! Have fun in Canada!"  Smiley
