I have a question about landing.

The landing date is typically 1 year from the date of the medicals, but the process can easily take more than a year. I had my medicals in September 2011 and if Buffalo takes its full 11 months, I will receive my visa in October 2012--13 months after my medicals.

Is it possible that my landing date could be as little as a week or two from my visa award date? And if so, is it possible to fulfill the landing requirement without actually moving to Canada? (As in, given that I only have to live in Canada for 2 years in any 5 year period, could I go thorough the landing process while only visiting, before I've wound up my affairs at home?)

That is exactly the situation we find ourselves in.  We received my husband's passport back with COPR, but he has until May 1st to land! (We got it yesterday).  I have been all over trying to figure this out, because the PR can take a LONG time to arrive.  Some people have waited over a year for the card.  In a perfect world (not the immigration world) it should take about 35 business days.  However it has to be mailed to a Canadian address, and not a PO box.  Because we have a house to sell, jobs to leave and jobs to find, that is a very short time frame.  We're planning to drive to the border in a couple of weeks with our list of goods to follow, and then return to MA.  We have to head back to Canada mid-June, and worry we won't have hubby's PR card.  Because we not good gamblers, we will have to pay $50.00 for "travel documents" for him to be able to get back into Canada.  As we have no Canadian address yet, we will put a family friend's address and have them mail it to us when it arrives (the PR card).  After waiting so long, it's kind of ridiculous this is what it comes down too.  We're in the US.  I'm guessing he hasn't come down with any communicative disease in the past year that his own doctor here wouldn't have been treating!  They slightly extended his medical papers to May 1st because I know they were done in April.

How detailed do the "goods to follow" papers need to be?  Other than our personal cars, and assorted furniture, curtains, photos, clothes etc, we're going pretty light.  Do you "one line" bedroom sets? or separate each bureau, headboard etc?  Things like sporting equipment (skis, skates...) is that "personal effects", "sports equipment" or "skis" ?? We're moving 30 years of marriage, 3 kids worth of photos, trophies etc.

Final question...the money requirement they mention - is that just for skilled worker class?  Family class says if spouse IN Canada - but I live in the US with husband as a resident alien.  Until the house is sold, we're not going to meet any liquid cash levels! (which will not be the next couple of weekends).  Arggg I thought the wait was the hard part.  This is nerve wracking! (sorry...venting)

Going to schedule an appointment with a notary tomorrow. Does anyone have any experience on what type of delays this may cause having to send.additional documents? I hope my file doesn't go to the bottom of the pile Shocked

Wait wait... we have to have notary seal on the paperwork?

I know in the states it's not as hard to come by.. but I'm hearing in Canada the only way to do that is pay $200?  Am I wrong?   What's the details on this?

We had to send additional information. And lawyer accidentally didn't send it all the first request. So our last information got there 3 months ago and we are still waiting. So we sent an email asking what was going on.

I definitely believe we went to the bottom of the pile of the applications they have stored out in the shed at the far end of the parking lot 3 towns over.

If you read bbiery's previous message, you'll see that he was asked to send in the Declaration of Common Law Union, which needs to be notarized. If you're not in a common law union, you don't need to worry about this.

Same here. We had to send a couple of things and feel as though our application has been sitting in a corner collecting dust. Bottom of the pile, indeed. When my husband finally gets his PR I think I'll faint. lol

Our spousal sponsored application was delivered by FedEx (all 4kg of it!) this morning at 10:35 am in Mississauga.  Now the waiting begins.  Fortunately, after the last round (31 months to rejection) I've learned to be somewhat patient.

Why was it rejected?
Was it through Buffalo?

We received our interview date. It is on June.19. too far Sad Do you guys think we should order notes?

Dear Applicant,

We are pleased to inform you that the processing of your application for permanent residence in Canada has been completed.

Consequently, you are required to submit your passport(s) and photographs within the next sixty (60) days from the date of this letter.  As the validity of your visa(s) has been already established and is limited to a fixed date, it CANNOT be extended under any circumstances.  We therefore urge you to read and follow carefully the instructions below without delay:

PLEASE NOTE:  Failure to provide the required travel document(s) within 60 days from the date of this letter will lead us to conclude that you are no longer interested in immigrating to Canada and your application will be refused based the information that is available in your file.  Once the application is refused, you would be able to reapply, but you would be required to submit a new application and pay a new processing fee.  The new application would be assessed according to the Canadian Immigration legislations in force at the time that the new application was filed.

Passport requirements

We require an original VALID passport for yourself and every accompanying family member.

Passports for all accompanying family members must be submitted together.
Passports must be valid for at least the next six (6) months, or at least until the date of your intended travel to Canada.
There must be at least one blank page in your passport.  If there are children included in your passport, there must be blank pages for their visas as well.
The immigrant visa that is to be placed in your passport will show an expiry date.  You may enter Canada anytime before the expiry date shown on the visa; this date cannot be extended.  If you fail to enter Canada before this date, you will be required to reapply and submit a new application and processing fee.
Please note: Immigrant visas cannot be placed in Diplomatic, Official or Military passports.

Photographs

We require the following.  See Photograph Specifications for instructions.

Ř  Two (2) recent photographs of yourself and each accompanying family member.

Ř  Height and eye colour for you and each accompanying family member.

You have TWO OPTIONS to choose from regarding the submission of your passports:

OPTION A:    Submit your passports in person

Bring Passports in person

Passports can be brought to our office at:

550 South Hope Street, 9th Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90071

Passports may be brought in on Tuesdays or Thursdays between the hours of 8:30 am and 10:30 am.  Bring this letter when you come.
Every effort will be made to have your passports ready to be picked up between 2:30 and 3:00 pm the same day.
You or your representative may bring your passports in person.  Your representative must have your written authorization and will be required to show photo identification.
For security reasons, the Consulate General of Canada does not allow the entry of recording or transmitting devices in the immigration waiting room or interview areas.  This includes all types of cell phones.

For Persons residing in Canada

If you are the principal applicant, you may appear alone.

You must bring the passports for yourself and each accompanying family member. All visas will be issued at the same time.
You can effect your landing upon your re-entry to Canada.
Your accompanying family member(s) can effect their landing by later appearing at a Canadian Port-of-Entry before their visas expire.

Or

You can appear with all accompanying family members and effect all landings at the same time upon your re-entry to Canada.

OPTION B:    Submit your passport(s) by mail

The security of your passports is important to us.  We strongly encourage you sending your passport(s) to this office by United States Postal Service or by commercial courier service.  Please ensure that you enclose a tracking number for your return envelope.  This allows you to track the delivery and return of your documents.
