Hello Everyone,

I live in Toronto and applied for my Spousal Class Permanent Residency at the New Delhi office through my wife who is a Canadian PR. At that time I was not aware that New Delhi wouldn't return passports outside of India, Nepal or Bhutan. Now, they have requested that I send the passport to the New Delhi office. Does anyone know how I can get them to return the passport back to Canada?

It changed to In Process on Feb-25. Till then it was application received.

But hey, dont take it as a benchmark. there was one person here called Funky, who got the visa delivered by post, but E-CAs was still "application received".

Really,,So the Funky was so lucky.so lucky.Might it also happen with us.

I think it is better if we dont check our status.forget it and Put on God.Just busy in work.Forget about E-cas and we dont know when the postman comes in our door and ring the bell and say,,VISA,,lol

just some general information for everyone

as much as e-cas is supposed to help us get an idea of where the file stands, it is not always correct. there have in a few cases where the e-cas read 'app recd' even when the individual received their PP with Visa. mine went from 'in process' to 'decision made', back to 'in process', and my spouse received the visa. e-cas still shows 'in process'

bottomline, e-cas is not always correct!

unfortunately they can't its illegal to do so. thats why they have two PR processes applying for within Canada or outside. looks like you applied for outside so you'll need to go back to india and send your passport in...as for you to get your PR you need to enter into canada from land, sea or air with your new Visa for it to take effect so you will need to leave canada to come back in.

congrats Maha. what city you guys are settling in?
as for the new address thats not an issue in fact at the immigration they will ask you to verify the mailing address so let them know about the new address.

regarding transit visa in UK i am assuming you are asking if you can go outside of the airport for few hours or a day between your flights? for that you will need to apply for visitor in transit visa before you fly out. UK border service is weird that way.  UK border service sometimes issues the visa on the spot too but that is at the discretion of the custom officer and esp for people will indian or pakistani passports probability of getting that one is low unless you are being accompanied by a canadian or US citizen.
the other type of visa they have is called Airside Transit visa, this one is granted to you automatically for staying at the airport waiting for your connecting flight...why do they have this visa? its just their way of collecting personal information on all passengers going through UK.
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/do-you-need-a-visa/

for your personal belongings, you don't need to have a list unless you are bringing in lots of money and jewelry. However, you do get 1 year to bring back your belongings duty free, so if you are planning to bring more stuff on ur future trips or getting them shipped than give that list to the border services agent so they can add that to the system and you won't get harassed in the future.  on a side note if you are bringing in lots jewelry and you will be flying back and forth to attend weddings/family gathering etc and will be taking your jewelry with you, get it appraised and keep the copy with you as in future if you take jewelry out and without proof you didn't buy this on your recent trip they could charge you duty on it.

hope this answers ur questions

Thanks.. very helpful.. Smiley
I read in the link you provided that there is an exemption of transit visa for people having valid Canada visa.. I asked about it only for staying within the airport, not going out.. that too next flight to Canada within 7 hours..
We are settling in Vancouver..

just staying at the airport you don't need to worry about the visa. depending on your connecting airline (air canada or british airways) you'll be flying out of terminal 3 or 5 to vancouver. both of those terminals have plenty of shops and restaurants, you can easily kill 4 hours just roaming around, take a nap and you can kill 7 hours easilty. if you feel adventurous you can give it a shot to see if you can get the 24 hour visa at the customs and take the train to London. that will help you kill 7 hours in no time Smiley

vancouver is a beautiful city, love that city...surrey not so much lol

I read that CIC does not like staples (I read it on a site, and I think read a thread on this site that also said that)

How did you guys sent in your applications? stapled or binder clips?

Got MP reply

"The passport was requested and has been placed on file.   The background checks are not complete and the application is in process pending background verifications which have not started.  Normal processing times are 6 months for a normal case.  Don't inquire for another 12 weeks."

its Sucks ...

couple of months back when i emailed Chc ND, i been told that there are background checks going on.
They cannot give me any exact timings as they have passed this to their agencies to get background checks done if applicant have travel history.

does anyone know, whether its ND taking much time in processing or it's agencies taking time??
