its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. within canada it does take typically 18 months so that could be a long time sitting around and not working. good to know you thought about it and seems you are well prepared. with the new process typically in 80% of the cases ND office will ask for passport up front and could take upwards of 4 months to get it back.

Hi Singhson, I am staying here with visit visa, I left my job in India and came here to live with my wife since last year March. I sent my application to CPC-M because outland process will take shorter time than inland. Inland process takes years, at least 1.5 to 2 years.
I can not afford to remain workless for that long. I cannot work with TRV, which is the reason.

Singhson, actually my case is not that straight forward at all. So I don't know how long it will take for me from ND. But definitely it shud be less than inland application. I got step 1 approval on 27th Feb from CPC-M. My ecase states Medical received last week. since then no update. Any idea about the timeline.

 @  Canadianswie,

Mine passport has been requested almost 4 months back from that time i'm still waiting for my visa.. I really don't know what ND doing.

as my status was reflecting In Process and all of sudden it got changed back to "Application Received", which is quite strange.

There are only few people in this forum whose status changed back to APR.

BTW, when did you apply?

Oh man! Has it been 6month for you yet? Contact the MP or order the notes thing, have you tried that? I Would go ahead and order the notes too. Maybe the changing back is a glitch in their system.

I applied in December. Are you able to see my timeline on the left?

COMPUTER ASSISTED IMMIGRATION PROCESS SYSTEM (only From 5$ )

CAIPS (or "Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System") is where all Canadian government notes are kept about your immigration application. CAIPS includes a wealth of information, including:

*Initial assessment scores
*Missing documentation
*Interview dates
*Visa officer notes and comments
*Concerns or problems with your file

Here is how to obtain your CAIPS notes yourself :

You must be living in Canada or have someone in Canada to do the same for you. If you are living in Canada you can order your CAIPS notes or on behalf of someone else for free under the Privacy Act.

1) Go the site : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5563B.pdf and fill in the form with the required details i.e.:

a] Visa post (e.g. Buffalo, NY etc.)
b] File number (e.g. BXXXX..)
c] Date of Birth
d] Your Postal address (In Canada address only)

2) Check on the box for the CAIPS notes request in the form.
3)Provide a photocopy of your valid permit/visa in Canada (Person requesting).
4) Write a cover letter requesting the notes (Person who requests writes that).

Post all the papers together to :

Our CAIPS can be ordered thru either of the following three [3] methods:
1. By our Consultant [if u have one] --usually a Free service provided by the good ones, or charge $5
2. Thru a Friend/Relative [who's in Canada] --s/he can obtain it under your authorization. Fees $5
3. From Websites [offering CAIPS Service] --discussed below. Costs $30-40.
