You graduated in Canada?  You need a post grad work permit and see if you can apply as a provincial nominee in your province and what the requirements are.  If you don't qualify for that, you can work for 1 year and then apply under Canadian experience class.

If you didn't graduate in Canada, you can't get a post grad work permit but you can get a regular temporary work permit.  You need to apply for jobs and find an employer who will apply for your labour market opinion so you can get a work permit.

As a skilled temporary worker, you can apply for permanent residency right away under a provincial nominee program with the help of your employer or after 2 years through Canadian experience class without the help of your employer.

Are you on H1B visa in the US?  Alberta has a program for certain H1B visa holders to immigrate without a job, see http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/campaigns/h1b.html

Otherwise you have to get a job offer.  If you can get a skilled job, in marketing or otherwise, you can apply right away through the provincial nominee program with the help of your employer.  The employer might want to wait your 3 month probation time before applying for you.  Finding a job can be hard, yes.

Company has to apply for a labour market opinion, when they have it, you can apply for a work permit.

A provincial nominee program allows each province to nominate people they want to get PR.  The programs are a bit different between provinces but I think all of them have a class for their skilled temporary workers to apply for PR as long as their employer co-signs for them.

Only 500 spaces in Ontario PNP pilot project.

I assume 500 spaces a year so I guess don't go to ON.  Go somewhere else.

You can see all the provinces PNP's at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/apply-who.asp

Follow the link I gave above to find different provinces nominee programs.  PMM said Ontario has only 500 spaces.  I looked at their website briefly and it seems they also limit occupations for their PNP.

Temporary work visa allows you to work in Canada temporarily.  PNP allows you to get permanent residency.  Some PNP's do not require you to have a job offer, for example if you are sponsored by family or you come in on the H1 program in AB.  If you have a job offer, you can either apply directly to the PNP with your employer or you can come in on a temporary work permit and apply for PNP later.  Some employers will not apply for a PNP for an employee right away, they may want you to stay with them through your probation period so they know if they want to keep you first.  Getting permanent residency through PNP can take from 6-15 months in Alberta, probably similar in other provinces.  If you leave your employer before you get your PR, your application would be cancelled and you would have to start again with a new employer.  Another option to apply for permanent residency would be to work for 2 years and then apply for PR through Canadian experience class.  You would not need your employers help for that.
