What do I need to get a temporary work permit in Canada, if I have permanent resident status in the U.S. (greencard holder)? How much time do I have the right to stay in Canada?

Hi

1.  You need to find an employer.  Who then advertises the position for at least 2 weeks to see if there are any qualified Canadians/PRs for the position.  The the employer applies to HRSDC for a Labour Market Opinion.  If successful, he then then sends you the LMO and you apply for a work permit at the Border, unless a medical is required.
2.  No right to stay in Canada, only Canadians/PRs and Registered Indians have the Right.  It depends if you get a LMO, if you get a work permit.  The work permit is limited to a maximum of 4 years.
