temporary work in tv studios Toronto

I work in bbc tv center as a production electrician, i qualify for permanent residency in canada but initialy i would like to try working in toronto tv industry on a temporary basis.Is this a good idea,or would i be more likely to secure employment if i had permanent residency.I would like to secure emploment before arriving in canada,again,is this a good idea or would i benefit by going to toronto to seek employment.

I would welcome any advice,especialy from people working in the canadian film or tv industry
