1. You have to have a US Visitor Visa, if you are not from a country for which US allows visa free travel.
2. maps.google.com would be your best bet in the distance/route etc.

There are no travel Ristrictions but you need to keep few things in Mind
1.) You have valid US visa
2.) You would be able to renter only if you have a PR card ( whch takes about 45 days) or you need to decalre at Port of landing that you will leave soon, you get another doc to reenter and you apply PR after you land second time

If you re-enter canada using your COPR via road, no other documentation should be needed.. but pls do confirm with the CBSA at the time of landing..all the best..

Remember that you visa will be one-way unless you are American. After landed, you can go to the US the same day (if you are not American, you will need visa to come back in unless you already have your PR card). If you decided to go back to the US and tell the officer at the border, the officer will put a hold on your PR card. Is there is anyway you could visit your relative before you land? Or can you wait until you get your PR card before you go back to the US? Think about it and do what is the best for you.

I'm sorry i got confused. Assuming i have a valid travel visa to the US and i want to go to virginia as soon as i land, all i have to do is tell the immigration officers that i will be leaving soon and that i have to tell them when my reaturn is, and where will be my port of re-entry.... I can just show my permanent resident documents(?). but then apply for a PR as soon as i re-enter?

one more thing, what do you advice: pply for a US travel visa from here in the Philippines or apply once i land? will it take weeks when i apply in canada? im thinking it might be easier

Hello there.
1. If you tell the officer that you are going back to the US, he/she will put a hold on you PR card (this will take you longer to get it).
2. The PR visa is one way visa so after you land, you can go to the US but on your way back to Canada, you will need a visa or travel document (from Canada Embassy in the US) if you do not have your PR card.
Suggestions:
1. Visit your family member in Virginia before you land
2. If you decided to land, wait until you get your PR card and you can travel more freely.
3. If you decided not to wait for your PR, there is no need to let the officer know about you going back to the US, however, once in the US, make sure that you visit Canada Embassy to get a visa or a travel document to easier your entrance here in Canada.

as what I interpreted imbubbles concern...do she need to get US tourist visa once landed in canada since she already a Canada PR..... as far as I know only canadian citizen can travel to 56 countries including USA w/o visa.
so you need to get tourist visa & preferably apply for tourist visa if you are alrdy in canada. Its too hard to get US tourist visa in Phil. I dont know how fast is the processing of tourist visa stamp in your passport.

we need PR card to re enter canada somebody told me in this forum so we need to wait 1-2mos for PR card arrival.

pls correct me if I am wrong....

thanks!

Hi rslcanada,

Once landed, can we change the delivery address of the PR to somewhere else (in this case the US) so that we can use the PR to re-enter Canada?
We are also planning to have my wife and kids go to America after landing in Canada so that it would be less costly (they would be staying with a relative in America) and it would give me more time to settle first before they join me. Or as an alternative, can I mail them the PR documents to America instead?

Any experience from the group would be highly appreciated.

fyi, delivery address should be in canada so if you have friends or relatives in canada give their address & ask them later on to send the PR card to you in US thru fedex or any reliable shipping agency so you can re enter canada using your PR card.
