Hello everyone. Can anyone tell me if I would need to apply for a visa to enter damascus just for picking up my wife?  Just worried if Canadians need visa's just for a very short visit.  My friend went to the airport when he was goin to pick up his wife and they wouldn't let him go he didn't have a visa. So he had to buy another ticket to turkey then he went from there to Damascus. Any help would be great so I can plan ahead
and this would be from Calgary to damascus.

Yes, as a Canadian, you need a visa to enter Syria as a tourist, for any length of time.  You need to get it in Canada, before you travel, they do not issue them at the airport on arrival, and they will not normally issue them from a 'third country' (your friend got lucky getting one in Turkey).
