Hello All

I am from India and our PR application is in the process under skilled worker cat. My spouse has a different surname in her degree certificate than the surname in the passport. For example - her name in the certificate is ABC DEF GHI, but in the passport is ABC DEF only. Infact GHI is our community name which anybody can use in our community. Previously, in Indian passports there was no place for Surname, it used to be only NAME:....... When we renewed the passport for my wife, the Indian embassy people made the passport as ABC as name and DEF as surname. in the PR application we also used ABC as name and DEF as surname as per the passport. I am her husband and the principal applicant and my surname is also not DEF.

Now my question is that, is it going to make any problem with IO to recognize the credentials of my wife in this situation. Please input your suggestions. Thanks to all.

I have no experience in this but here is my two cents.

With the many Indian nationals applying for Canadian immigration, i am sure they would have seen such situation before. The fact that her last name is different to yours is okay. Many women in the west keep their last name rather than change to their husbands.

For your own piece of mind, either you can write them a letter explaining what you said here and even get an affidavit to say what you said here and mail it to them or you could just let them contact you if they have a problem with the name/surname situation.

I have my name spelled differently in different documentation and I provided them with a letter explaining it. I am not sure if they will be okay with it or not but I am sure if they are not okay with it, they will contact me (however it will delay my application).

I am not an expert at Canadian Immigration.
Please don't expect me to answer if your post title has urgent in it and it is not really urgent. Urgent is 911 or you have a definite deadline tomorrow, not that you would like to send in the application soon

Hi.

Get an affidavit from court and explain that the person is same as given on certification and passport.

and sent this document with your covering letter explaining the fact.

they will probably accept..

thats my suggestion.. do it before they point it out..
