Hi to all,
I am in the process of applying under spouse visa. My wife who is Canadian citizen came to Pakistan to get married and she left after a months stay to carry on with her job. I have one problem with surname. In Pakistan surname is seldom used, I have never used surname any where. My birth certificate, CNIC(national ID of Pakistan) mention my name as Rauf S/o Ghulam Mohd (just for the sake of explaination), my education documents name as Rauf Ghulam Mohd. My previous passports used to mention as Rauf Ghulam Mohd and surname was not asked in it. But in last passport which is machine readable and according to international standard asked for surname. since I had the US visas in it which  had mentioned Mohd as my surname (This is routine practice that US visa make last name as surname) so I requested to the officer to make surname as Mohd and he did it. Now my surname is Chotani and I have mentioned same in Nikha Name (marriage certificate). Please advise
what I need to do? would all this be problem with Canadian Immigration process. 
Once again in nutshell my name appears as follows:
Birth certificate: Rauf s/o Ghulam Mohd
CNIC(national ID) Rauf s/o Ghulam Mohd
Education: Rauf Ghulam Mohd
Old passports: Rauf Ghulam Mohd
Last Passport: surname: Mohd
                    given: Rauf
Nikhaname(marriage certificate) Rauf Chotani S/o Ghulam Mohd Chotani
Please help me to resolve this issue. (date of birth, place of birth, father name same in all certificates)

So let me try get this right, you have taken your wife's last name Chotani on your marriage certificate?
If I understand you correct then your name on the marriage certificate/nikha name would be Rauf Ghulam Mohd Chotani?
Wow, I'd love to hear you say that! Anyway my friend I believe this is not a problem. CIC will be dealing with your name
as it is on the passport, and yes Mohd would be considered your last name.
Please notice my friend that I said "I believe this is not a problem"... meaning I don't really know for sure. Just offering what I can.
Hopefully others will chime in with the goods you're looking for.

Thanks shiftpro for replying. No Chotani is not my wife's surname. It is my own surname but I have never used it only used it in Nikhanama.
else no where I have used it. My last passport and US visas are expired and now my new passport would be made as
surname: Rauf
givenname: blank
This is what they do when person has single name. This will be matching with all my documents buy not my nikhanama. Should I go ahead with this profile  or should I apply for addition of surname in cnic and passport this will match with nikhanama (marriage certificate) but miss-match with all other certificates.
even if immigration canada clear this, wont this be a problem when applying for job. (different name in education certificates and passport/other Canadian id).

Well it seems you know more about this that I do and that's a GOOD thing!
Might be a question for an immigration lawyer.

Is this normal in Pakistan? If it is, then the visa officers will know about it and will not be surprised or suspicious. I'd keep all your ID and certificates as they are now, and attach a letter explaining the circumstances, for the application.
