Supporting docs for nomination

I wonder whether I can use tax forms as supporting documents for proof of employment. My boss is on sabbatical and won't be back for a while. I really don't wanna wait this long for the reference letter. Thanks.

Use a recent pay stub for proof of employment.

For the previous employer, will a tax form like w2 work. I didn't keep the pay stubs for those days.
