Thanks TRUONGAN and bettafish.

Not that my mom is in hurry to come here even after being refused TRV twice in past; I'm grateful to our local VFS office and also Canadian Consulate to make it happen so quick (25 days) and smooth. Smiley

Guys, I need your help in determining whether a student with no income can sponsor their parent. I'm a student but my husband meets the minimum income required. Any advice?

First, both your husband and you has to be either Canadian Citizen or PR. As far I've seen, family income counts towards meeting LICO. If you can show that your husband meets LICO for the whole family size (your family in Canada + parents you're inviting) and he agrees upon bearing everyone's cost; you may apply for Super Visa.

Thanks heaps for your reply; my husband is a PR and I'm waiting for mine; is the same income threshold required for a normal visitor's visa? and what does LICO stand for?!

First of all, you have to become a PR. And this topic is for "Super Visa"; you cannot "sponsor" your parents for immigration for at least 2 years starting from Nov 5, 2011.

You have to do a bit of homework on Super Visa. Here is the CIC link for that: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/supervisa.asp
Super Visa is one kind of Visitor Visa in which parents/grand-parents are given multiple-entry visa for up to 10 years (up to passport validity) and they can stay in Canada for maximum of 2 years upon each entry. On top of the regular visitor visa criteria, you (the inviter) have to be a PR/Citizen, meet LICO for full family (including parents) and buy medical insurance for your visiting parents in advance.

FYI, LICO stands for Low Income Cut-Off. CIC Ref: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5256ETOC.asp#incometables

First, I put "TO VISIT MY FAMILY TEMPORARILY" both in the application form and my invitation letter. Later, when VFS-Bangladesh pre-inspected the whole package, they recommended me to alter the purpose to "SUPER VISA" in the application form. So, I followed.

My invitation letter goes like this:

Dear Mother,

As the government of Canada introduced the new “Parent and Grandparent Super Visa” with an honest purpose of reuniting parents with their children for a longer period of time, I, XXX, would like to take this opportunity to invite you Mrs. YYY to visit my family in Canada temporarily for 8 months.

Hi  All Expereinced  Canada PR / Citizens

Firstly i must thank you for all the prompt responses & the gr8 noble you are carrying on .

 1.   Can i give a invitation letter stating that my parents / friends will take care of their staying expenses during the visit  , as i have nt built my credit history as i m just 1 month in Toronto  with WP . So should i create the invitation letter from my side or any other PR friend  will also help in getting TRV Visa .

2. So please advice if the invitation letter states about the self-expense letter  & what all more documents would be needed from Canada  & Wt all doc will be needed  in India , while submitting the TRV Visa Application in India .

3. Kindly convey which all documents are needed in Original / Notarized from Canada so i have to Courier them or Scanned copied would be sufficient .

Please revert if more info needed  (umesh.alhat   @   gmail.com )

Thanks & Regards.

You can't apply for a super visa if you are here on a work permit. You must be a PR or Canadian citizen to apply for a super visa for your parents.
