Subsidized daycare does not affect it - I am in receipt of it and was able to sponsor my husband. I confirmed it with CIC before we submitted. The only thing that is included is Welfare.EI, daycare subsidy, disability benefits, pension income are all not considered Social Assistance for Sponsorship purposes.

Cdagal, do you happen to know anything about maternity leave/pay?
I have been sponsored by by husband and have landed. I have a job and also pay EI, it is taken automatically from my pay.
What I want to know is, because my husband signed the agreement to 'take care' of me for 3 years, am i eligible for mat leave? Its confusing because I would think no, because I am not allowed to get benefits, but on the other hand, I am paying EI, which is what the mat leave comes from right?
Does anyone know?

maternity leave is fine too... it's a form of EI... i submitted the applicaiton the day before i had my son (planned csection) and was on mat leave during the entire time... it's not considered welfare at all...  (i was the sponsor in this case, but the concept is the same)

If you have worked and banked the hours required for eligibility and contributed to EI funds through payroll deductions,  then you are completely entitled to it

Chelley is right - maternity leave is just another form of EI, so it has no effect Smiley

Hi " CONCRETE",  I was just wondering if your spouse is in Canada or not? I have daycare subsidy and its now being pulled because my husband is in Canada. He is out of status with no SIN and they have the nerve to tell me 2 years after accepting subsidy for daycare that I am not eligible and never was and have to pay back all fees paid for me in the last 2 yrs.

Why did they say U were never eligible?Huh U have to pay back 2 years of subsidy?? And what does Ur husband being out of status have to do with your subsidy??
This is alarming. Pls explain.
Thanks

i suspect this may be a revenue canada issue and not a CIC issue.. the subsidy requires proof of all income that come into the household/family and when they see that a parent is not reporting income there becomes an issue of non-disclosure...

when a spouse is outside of canada or inside without a SIN they can fill out a world income form... when apart, a dual household is taken into consideration, but the form still needs to be filled out with revenue canada...

unfortunately you should have declared yourself as married with revenue canada and reported income (even $0 accordingly)... this really has nothing to do with CIC

Was your husband working or in school during this time? He is out of status so I am assuming he was not. The reason they are saying you were never eligible is because in their eyes, if you have a spouse at home doing no activity (work or school), then you would not need daycare so that is why they are asking you to pay back all the fees. It is one thing to file single in your tax return but when you apply for daycare subsidy they also ask you for your marital status. Did you tell them you were married or single? Also, for the annual meeting, they want both parents to come to the meeting if you're married. Did you go to these meetings alone?

Do you have any information about subsidized housing where your rent is pegged at 30% of income? Is this considered social assistance especially for sponsorship purposes?

Thanks.

No. RGI is not considered social assistance. I know people who live in RGI (subsidized housing) and they have been able to sponsor with no problems. As long as you're not on welfare or undischarged bankruptcy you're fine.
