submitted original Passport before Med Exam

Hi Everyone! im a newbie here! here's my case. I had submitted my application in High Commission of Canada here in Singapore for work permit last March 2011. After all my police clearance has been submitted, High commission called me 4 days ago to submit my original passport. The next day I did what I was told, and they gave me date and time for collection of my passport. I was wondering because they havent requested for my med exam. any advise please  or anyone had experience same with me. Coz i have no idea whats goin on.

well, you're only required to do a medical exam if you're staying for more than six months in Canada AND if

- you have resided or stayed temporarily for six or more consecutive months in a designated country or territory in the one year immediately preceding the date you sought entry into Canada. This applies even if you are a citizen of a country where you do not require a visa to enter Canada.
- you are coming to Canada to work in an occupation in which the protection of public health is essential. See Jobs for which you need a medical examination for more information.

How long did you have to wait from the day you submitted your application until the day you got the phone call to pick up your passport?

Submitted my application last March 2011, then after 3weeks they sent me letter requesting for police clearance. After submission, they called me last week(thursday) to submit my original passport. Next day I submit my original passport. And they told me to collect my passport on Friday(May 6). My LMO or my contract is stated 1 year. So i was wondering if that would be for visa already? If not how come they took my passport? Thanks
