Study permit only obtained at the end of October - problem?

Hello!

In June 2009 I graduated from McGill university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. With that, I obtained a post-graduation work permit valid for 3 years. My CAQ and study permit expired on August 31st 2009.

I got accepted for Master's at McGill starting in September 2009. On September 3rd, I obtained a CSQ (skilled worker) which is currently being processed in Buffalo. I was told by the CIC that I did not need a CAQ to get a study permit for my master's. They told me that the CSQ would have been sufficient.

So, on September 3rd, I applied online for a study permit. I got a rejection letter saying I needed a CAQ.

I obtained a CAQ. I reapplied for a study permit. I was granted a study permit on October 20th. I sent it to McGill.

McGill asked me for a letter of explanation because my study permit is valid starting from after the end of September.

I explained that the CIC misinformed me. Is McGill going to report me to the CIC? Am I going to be in trouble? Am I going to be in trouble for my PR and future citizenship application? Or, did I have implied status starting from September 3rd when I sent my study permit application (given that I already had temporary resident status in Canada through my work permit). What if I was simply not attending class? I am taking three graduate courses that I don't even attend as I can just read the slides at home and do the assignments at home.

PS In August McGill had allowed me to defer the beginning of my master's till January. That is why I did not apply for a study permit. I then changed my mind in September.

is it possible for one to hold a post grad work permit and a study permit at the same time? i thought that after you get your post grad work permit, you cannot apply to become a student without having to forego the work permit. please lemme know.
