Student VISA extension (Not study permit)

Hi,

Just got my study permit extended for a few years. My question is for the student VISA now, once I send it to Buffalo, why does it take 28 days to process? More importantly which documents do they require? I've checked out all of the embassy websites for the 6 cities and they only talk about study PERMITS & work PERMITS, not much mention about the student VISA.

If you look at the document in your passport, you will note that it says study permit.  Are you talking about a TRV (visitor visa)?  If you are from a non exempt country and require one to enter Canada.

"Citizens of the following countries are subject to a mandatory wait period" I am a citizen of one of those countries. Why is there a mandatory waiting period for these citizens? Background check?

Once they receive the documents, between then and the processing time, what happens?

Additional Background checks by CSIS, they process the thousands of applications that arrived before yours.

 Is it only to the Buffalo visa office TRV requests can be sent?

 Is it possible to go personally to the Canadian visa office nearest one's residence and file the application? Thanks.

TRV requests can be sent to the other offices as well such as Detroit etc...

Yes, you can go in person to have these applications done and there have been cases where if you are not from a country where residents have  a mandatory waiting period of 10 days then you can apply in person, in some cases I have heard of people getting the visa hours later, in others they mail it back to you after a few weeks.

     Thanks so much. It's just that I'll feel a bit "safer" if I know that my passport is with the visa office already, so I don't mind a few hours of driving. Now getting it back is another thing:) Can't win them all.
