My husband has to order his Option C next week - but he won't get it until the strike is over unless they will send it another way? This is really bad!
I can't even imagine how this can happen. I wish they would hire temp workers, anything to keep mail going.

You would have to ask whichever department is responsible for sending the Option C if it's possible or not. But maybe you can arrange your own courier such as DHL or others yourself to pick up the documents and deliver them.......or maybe they have a back up company who they will be using.
To me, it seems crazy they don't have a back up company as strikes can last months, but then again, maybe I'm wrong! Best to call them and ask directly. I'm sure a lot of people will be asking the same question.

Then send in your notice of assessment and copies of your T4s from last year. Advise them that you were unable to get the Option C due to the postal strike, although it has been ordered, and you will send it to them as soon as you receive it if necessary.

Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of a strike? Workers go on strike to protect their rights and to force a company to negotiate. What kind of bargaining tool would the workers have if the company just kept going about their business using contractors? Look, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the CP strike. I don't know the issues and since I'm not a manager or worker with CP, I don't feel like it's my place to give an opinion on their reasons for striking. However, I will say that I support a worker's right to strike. Workers having rights is part of the reason that we have a powerful middle class in North America and Western Europe. If a worker has no rights, then only the owners are all powerful and workers are left to the mercy of the whims of corporations. There was recently a report released about the reasons for the mine explosion in the US last year that killed 29 people. Apparently, the company ignored tons of safety concerns that made that work environment dangerous for anyone. They were more concerned about profits and keeping the mine operating than the lives of their workers. One wonders if those workers had a union that forced the employer to recognize and deal with those safety issues if there may be 29 extra people alive today and 29 families who didn't have to suffer. Look up "feudal system" if you want to know what the average worker's lives were like before they had rights. I don't know about you but I don't want to be anyone's "serf".

I understand what you are saying but I meant I think it would be crazy if the government department who handles the Option C doesn't have a back up plan. Of course the postal system wouldn't have a back up plan because well...they're the ones on strike! I support a workers right to strike also. btw while we're on the topic of Option C....I'm a bit confused about this also. If my common law partner are applying, she has 1 dependent young child who is not married. We understand we do not have financial requirements when applying (but may need to prove how I will support us) Since I'm not obligated to financial requirements, do I still have to send a copy of my Option C? And if not....how do I state why I have not included it?

Option C is still required. You're exempt only to the point that if it looks like there's no way you can support your family, they will want to know how you plan on staying off welfare and will deny the application if you can't prove ability to support.

You can still send your applications. Use a courier to this address:
Case Processing Centre 2 Robert Speck Parkway, Suite 1200 Mississauga, ON L4Z 1H8

If the strike it still going on when I'm ready to send my application to my husband in hopefully 2 weeks (from Oregon to Alberta), then it's getting FedEx'ed. If it's still going on when he's ready to send it to Mississauga, he will do the same. Not worth risking it getting stuck in limbo for who knows how long.

The strike is a rotating strike. It starts in Winnepeg at midnight. So all of Canada won't be affected at the same time So you might be okay.
