Hi ,

My friend's study permit extension got approved for 3 years in the month of August 2009.
Does he needs to send his passort to buffalo office for stamping?

He is planning to apply for PR in next month.

We really appreciate your response.

Thanks,

He could apply for a temporary resident visa at a visa office in the US (Buffalo/Seattle/NYC). Attach a photocopy of his student permit.

Hi Thanks for your response.
Is this visa required even if he is not travelling outside of canada now.
or is this mandatory to apply for canada PR.

the link you provided above shows - Application for a temporary resident visa to visit Canada (Pilot project)

Please clarify.

THANKS,

Not very sure if he needs it for his PR application. He needs the visa for re-entry if he leaves Canada. Yes.

Thank You so much for your response,

I see PMM response for one of the posts in this website for the similar question:

Did they change the rules recently?

You don't require a stamp, your new study permit is enough, your passport will be stamped when you re-enter Canada.

This is actually what's throwing me off:

Note: For applicants who require a temporary resident visa (TRV) to enter Canada: A
renewal of a study permit does not affect your TRV. It is your responsibility to ensure your
TRV remains valid if you wish to re-enter Canada. After leaving Canada, you must
apply for and obtain a TRV abroad by applying to a Canadian visa office.
(see Application for a Temporary Resident Visa to Visit Canada - IMM 5256)
