Spouse visa and ohip

Hi

So my husband and I were married on Friday and I'll be applying
For the spousal visa when we get our marriage certificate.

I was wondering if and when I will be eligible for ohip.

I'm currently on a visitor visa and will be applying for a work
Permit when I apply for pr and sponsorship and all that.

Where are you from?

Most outland applications are completed faster than inland ones. Just because you are in canada doesnt mean you have to apply inland. I was in canada, as were many other people on here and applied outland. I went through the London Visa office and the whole process took about 3 months. (I applied Dec 16, got PPR on Feb 28, Landed April 9).

If you do inland, first stage approval takes about 9 months, then you can work. I am not sure about ohip with the inland app, whether its at the first or second stage approval. With outland, it varies by province, some you are eligible right away, others, like Ontario, you are eligible 3 months after 'landing'.

Seriously think about which route to take!

You would not be covered unitl 3 months after you get the work visa if applying inland. You may want to look at getting medical insurance as first stage is taking 9-10 months at the moment.

When you pick an application kit here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-how.asp#step1 just pick the one where it says "If your spouse, partner or dependent child lives abroad, use the Application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class."

That doesn't actually mean you have to live abroad because on the sponsorship forms, you can give an address in Canada but request that your application is processed in your home country.
