Hi,
I am Kaushik patel and i have came to canada on december 2010 as a international student. I did 1 year ( 8 month 2 semster prog) from centennial college, toronto. I have applied for post graduation work permit on 14 oct and i am about to recieve it in 60 to 80 days.
now my question is
Q : I am married  (and i have declared this in my student visa file while applying study permit), i am planning to bring here my spouse but i dont know what is the best way like, i talked to different people they say it is better you call her on visitor instead of dependent, i would appreciate your guidance in this matter as what is the best way i should go?
Q : Supposing if i sponsor her for visitor/dependent do i need to show any funds/balance?s
Q : what is the timeline i should file her paper after getting my Work Permit?
I once again thank you for your prompt response.
thanks,
Kaushik patel.

I can't speak as an ultimate authority on this matter, but from what I understand, you're in on a temporary student permit.

From what I can understand on the CIC website, I don't believe you can bring in your spouse of a temporary work permit, and that you would actually have to be a permanent resident first before you can sponsor your spouse into Canada. I believe it is possible for you to apply for permanent residency through the federal skilled worker program, but you would have to qualify, and I don't enough to tell you any further about it. But yes, if you can land through that program, you can certainly sponsor your spouse.

Here's the link to the web page that can help you out.

Good luck!
