My wife and I have been thinking on moving to Canada in a near future, we just started looking at the process, gathering papers and so on. I did a quick test and got myself a good amount of points, I'm a software engineer with some strong experience, I know english and I've been studying french for over a year now. But there's something I can't find so far.

We have 2 young girls who don't speak english or french at all. The 5 years old could start learning asap, the 2 years old could learn naturally on-the-go. I don't think any of them could cause a problem with this regard. The question comes with my wife who doesn't either speak english or french, does that represent a problem? Could it be that she could learn later (if we get approved), or is it recommendable that we start the process once she learn one of those.

Thanks in advance

Only you-if you are the principal applicant are required to take the IELTS general test, and since you know French, you could also take TEF test and submit it with the docs. (you can get 16 points for the first language, and 8 for the second). Your wife wont have to take any language test, but, if u are serious about immigrating, that she should start studyng along with your 5 year old child.

Only the principal applicant is required to submit General IELTS. Needless to say that if and when you settle in Canada your wife will need to know English...
