Spousal Visa - how hard? How long?

Hi all,
I'm a Canadian citizen who lived and worked in the UK as a teacher from 2008-2010. In 2009, I met and started dating a British man, a relationship that has continued even though my WHV came to an end and I returned to Canada. We've been in a long distance relationship for a year now and of course are now looking at our options! We've made sure to hold on to all the bits and pieces to make our case as a serious couple.
- Christmas 2009 he came to Canada to meet my family
- Christmas 2010 I returned to England to spend it with his family
- Summer 2011 he came to visit me in Canada
He is looking at returning here at Christmas this year as well and we think that might be as good of time as any to get married and start the process of him moving to Canada.
Our question is how long of a wait are we looking at for him to receive a spousal visa and be able to move (and work!) in Canada? Is a spousal visa even the way to go or would it be a better idea to go for a conjugal partner visa (based on the fact I can't return to live in the UK?)
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank-you.

You wont get conjugal that easily, go spousal.
Currently 52 days plus 8 months. Outland application - working at the end of the process.
He can visit and you can apply outland even though you will both be in Canada.
Inland application, IRO 18 to 20 months...... working after 8 to 10 months.
