I just have a question about the background check. There were some places I lived that i cannot remember the house number correctly, though I know the name of the street. I just want to know if they visit those houses in person to confirmed if I lived there? There was a housed that I lived in that is now now demolished too, can this affect my background check?

Hi thanks for the post, it gave me a brief idea of the whole visa processing things..

i have a situation, my boyfriend (canada citizen) and I met in australia,and we been dating since then. Im still in sydney and he is now back in vancouver. we are planning to get married soon. what is the best way for us to apply for this sponsorship visa.

i was thinking :
a. apply for a visitor visa,and go to canada, process our marriage certificate and apply inland
b. apply from sydney for the sponsorship visa
c. for him to come back to sydney,and stay here,processing our civil union,and apply for sponsorship from australia..

any advice would be much appreciated, it will help a lot

No, they do not physically check the locations.  They do a background check, however, and I wouldn't expect a problem unless what you listed doesn't match up with what they find in the background/security check.

I applied  proof of citizenship for  my  23 month old daughter 3 weeks ago in the Philippines, the consular said they can't give her canadian limited validity passport until she gets her citizenship card, they can only give the passport "if someone dies in the family",
is this true? i need my daughter passport cause my husband is sponsoring me soon.

ecas...go on cic website, if you have a file # or unique client # and click on check application status, follow the directions and you should be able to check your status. Good Luck.

Dear Leon and Seniors

First, I would like to thank you all for your valuable support and for being a guiding star for individuals who have little knowledge on the Spousal sponsorship.

I am from India I have received Canadian PR visa, but not yet landed. I have a boyfriend and want to marry him.  If I get married before landing, my PR visa becomes invalid because my family composition will get change.  If I inform the embassy that I got married, they will tell me that my PR visa is now invalid and will advise me to send my passport back to them as well as immigration forms for my (would be) husband and his (applicable) fees.  My husband's name will then be added to my application and new PR visas will be issued for both of us.

My Questions are:

1.   My Visa Office is New Delhi, what would be my actual processing or waiting time (in months) to get my Revised PR Visa (which includes my husband and my PR Visa) after I submit the entire requested documents i.e PCC, medical and filled forms?
2.   The time taken to process our PR Visa (as per the question 1) would be case specific (my bf has no travel history nor convicted ever) or it would be processed immediately (in weeks)?
3.   I am adopting this path to avoid any issues later related to ongoing Marriage of Convenience fraud as I am declaring the Embassy well in advance. So is it fine?
4.   Or it is wise if I land in Canada without marrying him. Wait till I get my PR Card then come down to India and marry him. Later apply for sponsorship through outland once I land in Canada again.
5.   If I land first in Canada without marrying, then come back and get married in India, what should be my minimum and maximum stay in Canada so that V/O considers my marriage as genuine when I apply later for my spouse sponsorship? Care would be taken that we keep ample of photos of our engagement, traditional marriage, marriage certificate, online chats, telephone bills as evidence to prove it?
6.   Sorry to be pessimist, if my husband does not clear his medical will my PR visa would be cancelled?
7.   Also please advise us, which would be the best option - either I marry now and add my husband to my application so we can both go to Canada as PR together OR I land first, then come back and get married, then go back to Canada and sponsor.

Please pardon me, if I have asked too many questions but your valuable answers and suggestions would be highly appreciated.

If you r concerend about your boy friend's medical i can tell u  one thing:
If you marry him now and include him with ur application, ur PR visa may be cancelled if he has some medical issue.
b) If you land in Canada then get married u will sponsor him as your spouse. In that case they can not refuse your husband for medical issue.

There are two categories for people who don't pass the medicals.  1) He has something very contagious and dangerous to public health or 2) He has something which will cause excessive demand on health care.  If he is being sponsored as a spouse, he can not be refused because of 2) but he still could be refused if 1) applies.

There is no minimum time you need to have lived in Canada before you can marry and sponsor.  You just have to be consistent.  If they ask you at your landing if you have a boyfriend, just say yes.  At any time, just say that you were in a serious relationship and you were planning to get married but did not want to rush it to do before your landing.  As long as you were not living together for 12 months and not married when you laned, you could not have included him in your application.

As Leon says, this is an issue if it is not a spousal sponsored application.  It can be argued around for refugee and H&C applications.  However, it is an issue for economic classes.  As ludicrous as the standard is ("let's do a cost/benefit analysis in which we only consider costs and not contributions") overcoming it is very difficult, or as Justice Harrington said “Those who are qualified are welcome to immigrate to Canada; unless
they are sick; except if they are rich – maybe!” - Jafarian v. MCI [2010 FC 40].

You do need to be in Canada in order to be eligible to sponsor and while there is no specific income required to sponsor, you do need to be able to assuage the concerns of a visa officer that you will not require social assistance.  Thus, it would be best if you can combine your prior income information with some evidence of income in Canada (an employment letter, your first pay stub, etc.)

CIC does not update the forms every quarter.  Indeed, one of the forms (IMM 1344) was updated in December 2011 and again in February 2012, so that was only two months.

However, CIC has stated that they will accept the OLD IMM 0008 form until March 31, 2012.  While they will likely accept it as long as it was received by their office prior to March 31, 2012, I'd submit the new forms - they are barcoded, so they skip the data entry step as the information will be automatically entered simply by scanning the 2D barcode page.  That will make them at least a little bit faster.

So it means if they received it after March 31, 2012 the barcoded form can't be read anymore by their scanner? and I need to send a new form?

Thanks for all the info you've shared. My wife(sponsor) and I will be starting our application. I'm currently working in Dubai. Our visa processing office will be in Manila. I just wanna ask if it is ok if i still stay here in Dubai while waiting for the sponsorship approval? I've been reading the forum and learned from others that the lead time for Part 1 application takes atleast 55 days. After part1 approval I will go to manila and wait till DM. Thanks in advance!

Where you are located should not matter while the application is in process.  Your sponsor has to either be in Canada (if a PR) or have a credible plan for returning to Canada (if a citizen) but you can be anywhere.  Clearly if you are called for an interview, you will need to go to the visa ofice.

We had the same problem so we used googled earth, if we could rememer the location, like cross streets, then we would go to street view, recognize the place and see the address, it helped us alot to find addresses we couldnt remember
