Surely something of this nature has been posted before. If so, perhaps you could direct me, otherwise any advice would be oh so helpful!

My husband and I are New Zealanders, living in NZ. He also happens to have Canadian Citizenship (due to his father) so is sponsoring me for our move to Canada next year (for 2 - 3 years). Neither of us have ever visited Canada.

We applied in October for PR for myself, which we understand won't arrive before we move over in April. He has been accepted as a sponsor, but that is all we have heard from CIC. He has a job (almost) lined up in Northern Canada. I plan to enter on a Working Holiday Visa rather than wait around in NZ until my PR arrives which will hopefully be within the first few months (they say it takes 7 months for NZ applications).

My questions:

1. Do I have to be in my home country to RECEIVE my PR?
I understand I have to leave Canada and return with the PR, but does this mean a return to NZ? And if so, would you recommend my husband accompany me over the border seeming as he is my sponsor?
(I have heard mention of an interview in home country? But this was not in my application information so I assume it doesn't apply to those sponsored by a Spouse who has citizenship.)

2. On arrival, will the Canadian border patrol know that I have applied for PR? Will this jeopardise my ability to enter with a Working Holiday Visa even if I have a return ticket?

I'd love to get in touch with anyone who has done anything of this nature. Any help appreciated - it's all a little overwhelming!

1. No, you may be visiting in Canada at the time.  You are visa-exempt so you will not even need to send your passport for a visa to be inserted as per the new regulations, you will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence form which you can then take to the nearest land border or schedule an appointment with a local CIC office to complete your "landing" process.

2. They might be able to access this information.  It should not affect your application for the WHV, however.

thank you, because I have read on some other threads that your address disappears only when they are finalizing your application, I think its just a misconception!

Hi everyone

I am just starting out an outland spousal sponsorship and I was going through the Canadian immigration website and it says that I don't need any proof of my financial status. Is this true only for students or true in general?

You don't need to meet specific income requirements to sponsor a spouse but they can refuse you if they do not think you two can support yourselves.  You still have to send your printout C you get from the taxes and if you are not making much money, you should include a cover letter stating why you are not making a lot of money and how you expect that situation to improve in the near future.  If your spouse is going to be the breadwinner, state that your spouse will be the one who is working.
