I've applied for the PR under the spousal case last year, received a letter from immigration saying they began processing my application feb 15th 2008. I am from Morocco and live with my wife in Ottawa. I received a letter from immigration on Jan 9th 2009 saying that my application has been approved and that I need to wait for someone to call/send a letter to set up an appointment to go downtown and pay the $440 fee and sign to get my PR. I am assuming the case processing centre sends my case to Ottawa and then I am notified once they have an opening. My question is, can anyone from experience tell me how long this wait is? One person I spoke to told me it may take up to 6 months. Someone else told me it takes 4-6 weeks. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I am considering a trip to Washington D.C. Should I not leave Canada until I receive my PR or is it ok to cross the border.

As long has you have valid visa's for both Canada and the US, you should be able to travel for vacation without a problem.

Hi

As long has you have valid visa's for both Canada and the US, you should be able to travel for vacation without a problem.

The OP is applying in Canada and if he leaves BEFORE receiving his PR there is very good chance that he will not be readmitted.  By the way the RPRF is $490 and the wait at CIC Ottawa is about 2 months for landing after notification.
