I'm living in Colombia with my Colombian wife, and about to send in our application for permanent residency.  I am wondering about processing times...I understand 2-3 months in Mississauga, and according to the cic website, 17 months in Bogota...is that 17 months complete or on top of the processing time in Mississauga?  Another thing...I had to go through a bankruptcy, but I have been discharged for about 7 months.  From what I read on the cic website and guide, it only says you may be ineligible to sponsor if you are an UNDISCHARGED bankrupt...would just like to verify that.  Any other advice anyone has would be great.  I met my wife 2 years ago online, came down to visit her a few times, then I moved down here in January and we've been married for 7 months.  I anticipate a long processing time because its Colombia, however was encouraged when my brother sponsored his Australian partner and the entire process was approved in only 4 months!!

The processing time for Colombia is in addition to the time for the sponsor approval in Mississauga.

Don't compare the timelines for Bogota and Sydney.  Sydney ranks as one of the fastest offices, offices in Latin America are not as fast.  The timing shown is for an average 80% of cases processed in the past 12 months, but a well-prepared application which is straightforward could see her processed in less than that.  Allow at least 6-12 months for processing, that is the standard timeline most often quoted for spousal applications.
