yes you are right,,,but i guess your hubby never threatened you with a knife either did he,,,or put it to his throat to kill himself,,,,like whats up with that

Interesting twist this thread has taken.  Ok, I'll put in my 2 cents.  To deegirl, I'm so sorry that your marriage is not working out and that you feel that you may have been used.  No matter what the reason(s), the ending of a marriage is so difficult and I'm so sorry for your pain.

My husband has been in Canada with me for 8 months now.  We will celebrate our two year wedding anniversary next month.  We have lived less than half of our married life together so far.  So even though we were married for more than a year when he arrived in Canada, we had to start over like newlyweds.  And it was not easy.  It's still a work in progress like all marriages are BUT those of us who choose to marry into another culture/religion also must add these differences to the long list of relationship issues to overcome.  Adapting to the culture in Canada has not been easy for my husband.  Things that seem minor to me are bigger to him and vice versa.  These issues come as a surprise to both of us.  He never thought he would encounter such things and I never thought they would be a problem.  I'll give you an example.  Hugging.  It's normal for me and my friends/family (male and female) to hug each other hello and goodbye.  My husband HATES when my male friends hug me in front of him.  He sees it as an insult to him, as my husband.  Why, he says.  Why do they have to touch you?  I tell him it's normal here, that's how we say hello and goodbye, it means nothing.  I won't get into detail about the battles that ensued over this but it has taken a lot of arguements and tears to get us to a place where we are both understanding where the other comes from, both trying to adapt and be aware of the others feelings, and trying to accept things that are cultural that we can't change.  I can't change his Moroccan upbringing and just like he can't change my Canadian programming.  So compromise, patience and communication about our feelings have become key to our survival in this marriage.  Luckily, we both put in the effort because we really do love each other very much.  We've discovered that rather than trying to make the other person bend to our will, each of us giving a little and compromising on each issue has given us more positive results.

But all of this is an exercise in patience.  And it could have gone either way at times.  But that is the way relationships are in general.  The other thing I can say for SURE is that what my husband believed living and working in Canada would be like and the REALITY of what is really is has been so different!!!  He would be the first one to tell any Moroccan on here that life in Morocco is easier than it is in Canada.  That doesn't mean better, just easier.  He had no idea that life was so expensive here even though I told him.  It was one of those things he had to experience for himself.  Even what we value and are interested in is different.  It drove him crazy that when he would meet new people here in Canada, practically the 2nd question he would be asked was "So, what do you do for a living?"  My Canadian friends on this board will say it's a normal question.  My husband's view was that it was too personal and he couldn't understand why they wanted to know this or why he would be judged on this.  Right or wrong, that's how it is here.

Getting the visa is just one challenge any couple here will overcome.  It does not lead to "happily ever after".  It leads to more challenges which is completely normal for any married couple.  Mixed marriages like this add extra challenges to the pile.  That's the truth.  But now I know a couple of things for sure.  First is that our marriage is based on love and common values, not a visa.  Second is that if our marriage were to fail, it would be because we couldn't overcome our challenges and find common ground where we could both live happily.  Whether it's cultural differences that could lead to that, who's to say?  But that is the case for us.  It's not the case for all.

For right now, we are happily a work in progress living one day at a time and hoping to continue to conquer the next day together.

I think that is EXACTLY her point.... that her hubby never did those things, and that is what makes him different from yours.... and what makes generalizing about all Moroccan men unfair, because hers DIDNT do it.  And many of the other women who married Moroccans are NOT experiencing that.  And every time you post something negative about Moroccan men it is 'mean spirited' because saying all Moroccans are dishonest wife beaters would be like saying that all Canadian women are stupid, naive chits who fall for any (Moroccan) mans cock and bull story - and that isnt true either.

No one is trying to negate your bad experience - We ALL feel horrible for you that this happened.  But people just want the 'race bashing' to stop.

That is all...

Let the negative Karma ensue.

For the ones who are posting their bad experiences.Don't you have family you can talk to? I mean seriously this is just a forum why would you put your business out here? Also to post the same thing every time...Your experience is a private matter!!! Not for everyone to see, also the person thats being talked about can not defend themselves! Its just plain rude!!! This forum is not here for that this forum is here for information for everyone that is going threw this process! I can not say i'm sorry because too many rude comments have been made already. I just hope and wish the best for everyone else...Sign NATIVE

No he didn't Deegirl.  I'm so sorry for you.  Look, people like that, no matter where they come from, do not belong here.  They belong in prison.  I hope you had him arrested and filed a police report.  I hope you are safe.

Ok it is probably good then that the relationship has ended.. And yes definitely I to hope you called the police when it did happen so it could be dealt with. My advice for you is to seek counseling..You need it. Counseling will help. and little tidbit of info this did happen to me but again he was a Canadian citizen and now I am divorced, safe and now remarried and have the most wonderful caring Moroccan man who would never let anything bad happen to me.

Again your experience is quite similar but again different culture .. Please stop classing wife beaters into 1 group Moroccains.. They are not all bad. Every culture has a bad seed ..I hope you find peace within your heart and mind to recover and move on..

Joe see about getting your car shipped by boat it might be cheap .. don't know where or how to get in touch with them. ask your wife or her family or even your friends in Moroc .. Good luck

To all the others here and soon to come

HAPPY CANADA DAY !!!!!!!!

The IDP (international drivers permit) is a special license which allows motorists to drive internationally, when accompanied by a valid driver's license from their country.

CAA is the only organization in Canada authorized to issue an International Driving Permit.

In all the countries that signed the 1949 Convention on Road Traffic. In addition, many other countries which are not signatories to the Convention recognize the IDP and accept it in their territories.

IDP's issued by CAA are only valid outside North America.

How do I obtain one?

Print the application, complete it and submit it to your local CAA Club.
Requirements for issue:

   1. the applicant must be 18 years of age or older
   2. photocopy (front and back) of a valid Canadian provincial driver's license
   3. 2 passport type photographs
   4. fee payment of $15.00*
   5. complete and sign the CAA IDP application form (no other form is acceptable)

   1. *Mailed in applications must include the fee payment in the form of a bank draft, money order or cheque in Canadian funds drawn on a Canadian financial institution payable to your local CAA Club.

As for insurance call CAA they may help with overseas car insurance also

No idea on car costs.. My husband said you maybe able to buy one for $5000-8000 used canadian funds... Good Luck..

Other option call embassy for information they may give you some info as to shipping

                                 OR

Have wifes family look for car now for you to rent or purchase

Good luck

6 .Checklist – Documents to enclose
7. Resi. address proof (Photocopy of utility bill or telephone bill or house contract)
8. Photocopy of CPC Approval letter.

Please sent step 2 documents to Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles. dont forget to sent photocopy of CPC acceptation letter which you received from CPC mississauga after submition step 1.

Step 2 takes 20 business days (One Month) from date when Application submited. (For my case it takes 14 Days)
Note: do not sent original copy of any documents for step 2 - Only application form original and rest only photocopy

After sumbition step 2 , MICC sent you back one copy of undertacking form and CSQ, this CSQ certificate please sent to sponsored person to his/her home country.

I wouldn't worry so much about having a international drivers license. I have got pulled over and issued many tickets in Morocco, and I just provide them with my Alberta Driver's License with no problems.

If you are worried, get a IDP that way you are safe.
