I just have a quick question for you I was wondering if your husband had gone to the adul to find out if there was any more papers that is needed to get married. Also my boyfriend said that we would not be married by the adul as it is only for muslim men and women and if this is correct how are we to get married if you could answer me plz it would be appreciated. He said that we would go to the embassy but they say on the site that they do not marry people at the embassy could you help me out here plz. It was so nice to find this forum with such nice people and my heart goes out to all that has united with there loved ones good luck to all. And Cindy I hope that your day comes fast as I know that waiting is the worst part.

Hi Raven
Thank you for the welcome and for the information that I need. Do you mean that everything that we need must be in french. Can you get the forms off line in french as I don't understand a bit of french lol but I am sure that my boyfriend can help me fill them out once I get there. Like should I have the criminal check and everything that I need from this end translated into french i.e. birth certificate, passport I am sorry if these are stupid question but I have never had to do this before and just new at this and there is so much to do. And if all needs to be french where abouts do I go to get this done I live in Ontario. Could you also tell me if I need photo's of us and email messages to send with all the forms. I am sorry but I just want to get this done right so it is not sent back and delay time that we could be together. My boyfriend is in Casablanca and went there for a wonderful vacation in July and hope to go back again soon it is so hard being apart.
I hope that it goes fast for you and you will be with your husband soon Thank you so much and best of luck to you to Donna

Hi Donna, The process took 12 "work" days for us but my husbands town is a small town and we spent most of our days traking down the familly judge who liked to hide from work. :) It would be great having and administrative job in that town, no one actually stays in the office. lol The proof of religion and the approval of the courts to marry (with copies of all docs the courts ask for) is really all the adul needs but get a list from him, ours helped us a lot with the process at the municipal level. The courts (municipality) is where all the time takes. Plan on 3 - 4 days in Rabat, then 5 - 8 with the municipality and then 1 or 2 with the Aduls at the end to draw up the marriage contract. You can translate everything in Rabat. Your Birth certificate and passport are already bilingual, and the embassy gives you everything in French. What we did is Lawyer then Embassy monday am then translator that afternoon to drop off papers to put in arabic, then police for clearance. the next day we toured around rabat then picked up our translations in the afternoon and embassy again on the 3rd day and dropped off copies of the embassy docs and police clearance for translation to arabic, then to ministry of foreign affairs to stamp the original embassy documents then picked up translations. I can give you the name of a hotel in Rabbat that is close to everything you need, dirt cheap, nice, and bonus, if your boyfriend sweet talks the owner you may be able to share a room. I can also give you the address of the translator as he was cheap and fast and can also help with the process in Rabat. The photos and emails are for when you start the sponsoring process. You don't need proof for the marriage process. My email is super_cindy@hotmail.com I challenge your statement Raven, I am married to the best man in the world! Maybe we should adjust to say best men for us. ;) We risk starting a war in the forum.

Hi Cindy
Thank you so much for all the help and I would really appreciate anything that you could help me with. Without this forum I would feel lost. I want to start to get things in order as I would like to go back to Casablanca early next year it I can afford it you know these long distance relationships lol but it will be well worth the money just to see him again in person. If I could ask did you guys meet your husbands on the net. I think that computers are so amazing you can meet so many people around the world and who would of thought that you could even meet your future husband. And in your cases your husbands. It is so nice to hear of stories that work. And Raven I am ready to play the game hurry up and wait lol. Anyway thanks a lot have to run get to work.

Thanks so much for all your help so far. My daughter sent in the papers at the end of February. They were received in Mississauga on the 2nd of March, and she just found out that the sponsorship was approved March 23rd. I think that was very fast. The papers are in Rabat I guess now. We're hoping that everything goes smoothly over there. Keep your fingers crossed for us please. Thanks again.

HI Welcome to the board!
You do need to stamp the mariage act at the ministry of foreign affairs. And you do need it translated to French or English (french is easier I think). Also, make copies of the ministry stamped act and have them legalised at the municipality. Always good to have back ups. :-)

Hi All,
First off - Congrats Yasmina great news!! (I am sooo jealous!)
First off again - Congrats Boras and Raven on your great news. Once again I am soo jealous!!
Secondly - I think my hubby is the best. However, I will make one concession to Raven - Boras and my hubby met and my hubby liked your hubby - I have always believed that good knows good!!!
Donna -- I would suggest bringing the immigration documents with you and get the copies of the documents you need for that at the same time you are doing the marriage documents. You will be doing a lot of waiting and could complete the forms at that time. I did not do it this way and here is my situation: I was married May 31st and I still havent filed my papers yet!! Expect the unexpected, however, I think that had I brought the papers with me, and filled them out there and got everything done, maybe I would be in the same boat as Yasmina and Raven.
To all those about to get married: I have another caveat -- please check your Marriage Certificate and translation very carefully -- both of mine had errors on them -- things had to go to the tribunal again to correct the errors, then back to Rabat to be translated and equalized at the Ministry of foreign affairs. Major pain in the butt. So just be careful. Check spelling of names, birthdates, amount of dowry etc.
I am trying to be positive and I am hoping to get the papers filed in the next week or so.
Has anyone found any good moroccan cookbooks here in canada?
Take care, B

Still haven't gotten my papers sent in. I have hit roadblock after roadblock. I went into the hospital on Sunday night, was operated on Tuesday night and have just arrived home (emergency gallbladder removal). So I guess the papers will have to wait yet another week. Yasmina: As for a tajine -- I lucked out a bit, my sister gave me hers. She bought it after we came back from Morocco the first time -- we had both wanted a tajine, but wanted one that was not going to leach paint or other toxins. So she bought her tajine at the LeCrueset outlet store in Seattle. I think she paid around $80-100 for it. http://www.amazon.com/Le-Creuset-Moroccan-Tagine-Red/dp/B00004SBKK She used it a few times and I remember the tajines were good! I too am a bit confused with Marilyn/Miriem/Adil/Mustapha -- not too sure what is going on there...... Anyhow, hope everyone is doing well. Becca
