Hello,
I would appreciate any help we can get in this matter..

Me and my wife became PR's in Feb 09. Since then we are living in US. We are expecting our first child in October. We want to finally settle in Canada in the month of Dec 09. My question is..

On what grounds can we take our newborn (US Citizen) into Canada?

I know that we can not sponsor the child while living outside Canada. Once we get inland we will start the application process. But the first thing is to get inside Canada.

Please be kind enough to provide any links if those might be helpful. Thanks

Bring the baby with you on its American passport.  The baby is visa exempt to Canada and you can do the sponsorship as soon as you are in.

Thanks Leon for the reply. But as i can make out, wont it be a dual intent and can't the officer deny the entry on the basis of the intentions of not returning back to US after the 6 month period has expired??. Thanks

If the baby were not visa exempt, you would have a problem getting a TRV for the baby because of that.  Some people who are in those circumstances end up having to send one parent to Canada to apply to sponsor while the other one waits with the baby.  Some have been advised by the embassy that they can apply for a TRP for the baby to bring it with them to Canada.  I have never heard of people with visa exempt babies having a problem.
