You may not sponsor if you receive social assistance for a reason other than disability.  I would say withdraw or reapply when you no longer receive any social assistance.

Yes - I agree with steaky.

Withdraw the file and reapply once the sponsor is no longer on social assistance.

my file has been rejected because she is taking social assistance.......she has a 4 year old kid from previous relationship and she is working part time ......so my lawyer told me that under subsection 25 of IRPA ur sponsor can be approved under humanitarian and compassionate grounds..........so me and my wife decided to go thru ............but its unfortunate that application got rejected. so,do i have to appeal or i have to file my application again.....bcos they only send my passport back.......the file is still with them

u need to reapply again I am sure welfare is not considered compassionate grounds I could be wrong but if the sponsor cannot provide for herself and her child and she resorted to assistance she is in no financia state to bring someone else in the country that wil most likely be a burden to the system and yes u may be highly skilled and qualified in a professional career but that is not gona prove to be as soon as you land you will find gainful employment

I'm not aware of an appeal process for sponsor side. This would probably be a situation to discuss with your lawyer since they gave you the poor advice to file when the sponsor is on welfare

OR better yet, ditch the lawyer, send the money to your wife to help her bridge the gap and earn an income... There are plenty of govt funded programs that she can take advantage of that are NOT considered assistance, such as child care subsidy and federal and provincial child tax credits... She might need help while they kick in, but life is manageable and can be geared to income if your income is low...

Good luck

sounds like she's already in affordable housing if she's currently receiving welfare... rent shouldn't be an issue, but rather child care.. that varies from area to area, and i believe priorty is given to individuals attempting to get themselves out of the system if you will (discontinue welfare)

Mmmm no jus cuz yer on welfare doesn't mean yer rent is geared to income. My friend waited 3 yrs to get into a low income place and she is in it now working and not on welfare. And child care subsidy could take a long time as well. I have my own daycare business/center and a lot of ppl say they've waited over a year to get it.

Childcare can be an issue as well with hours of work and days of work depending on the hours of operation for that daycare. Most centers aren't open past 6 here and they don't offer daycare on a weekend. So that causes a lot of problems with single parents and going back to work. Not to many jobs out there now offer weekends of and 9-5

i never said the rent is geared to income... it's likely AFFORDABLE.... a person on welfare isn't going to be in a place where the rent is unmanageable

subsidy varies from place to place... i've used it in the past and never had an extensive wait... when you're living from pay to pay as most on welfare are, the wait can be difficult to overcome...

the point is that money is being spent on lawyers when obviously there are more pressing needs in the family, not how much her rent is or when the subsidy would kick in but rather that he should be sending her money to help bridge whatever gaps exist rather than pouring money into bad legal advice...

I agree, he should be helping her out. Rent here for a decent 2 bedroom apartment is atleast 800 plus bills and welfare barely would cover the rent!!

where is 2 bedrooms 800 in toronto its closer to 1000 from what I am seeing

at this time maybe she should not sponsor she can continue welfare and when she is in a better place working then she can apply she doesn't have to off it for a long then apply she can just send in her paycheck along with her option C which would show welfare but the paycheck should let them know she is presently employed
